Tang Historic Graves Project
We recently carried out this archaeological venture in conjunction with Mr. John Tierney from Eachtra Archaeological projects. Westmeath Community Development provided the funding. The project involved: Mapping of Noughaval,Templeavally and Ardnacraney cemeteries. Numbering each headstone. Taking a Photograph (with GPS Camera) of each headstone. Recording of the inscription on each headstone. Transcribing the information gathered onto the website – www.historicgraves.ie The earliest headstone dates back to 1686. Layout plans and memorial recordings are now available online and the following are the links to each site.
http://historicgraves.com/graveyard/ardnacrany-north/wm-acny If anyone wishes to include extra information about deceased parishioners they can log on to the above links or contact the numbers below. Also, if there is a need to edit or omit any individual recording please do not hesitate to contact us.
Recording the information on the headstones has helped to expand parish records. We would like to expand these records further. If you have any information about relatives or neighbours buried in unmarked graves we would like to include these in our records. Anyone with information please contact Gerard Curran ph. 087-6987193, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or Ben Lynn ph. 087-2379629 email: email@example.com A draft “Tour of Tang” in ibook form has been commenced and we hope to continue collecting local stories, photos, etc. over the coming months. Many thanks to everyone who assisted with this project.
