All roads lead to CPL Park, The Demesne, this weekend as Longford Rugby Club are organising a truly novel fundraising event that is sure to attract significant attention from competitors and spectators alike. On Saturday 24th August the club is hosting the second annual running of ‘The Midlands Strongest Man’ competition, where bulging biceps and pulsating pecs will be order of the day!
Last year’s event was a massive success with huge crowds turning out to watch the riveting action, with over 12 contestants taking part.
For the uninitiated, the first question must be what is involved in a strongman competition? As the name suggests, it attempts to find a person with the greatest strength across a number of different events. Points are awarded for the top finishers in each event and once all events are complete, the person with the most points wins.
Registration and weigh in will take place on Saturday August 24th, from 11am at CPL Park, the Demesne, Longford, with the first event starting at 1pm. There will be other fun events taking place throughout the day in the rugby club for children and all the family. After the competition, a BBQ is taking place, with plenty of music and craic, where the winners will be presented with their trophy and cash prize.
Tickets for spectators are currently on sale. Those wishing to purchase tickets, register for the competition or get more information can email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Mick on 0872263687 or Colm on 0863274774. Entrants must be over the age of 18.
