Congratulations: Congratulations from all in Cullyfad to our very own Emily Hughes, Farragh, Logford’s Rose who represented us so well in the Regional Finals of tthe Rose of Tralee. Emily, you may not have been chosen to go further but in the eyes of your community you are a wnner, not just in the Rose competition but in everything you have achieved so far. We are very proud of you Emily.

BIRTHDAY: Belated Happy Birthday to Anne Murray, Cullyfad who celebrated her birthday last week. Anne gives of her talents and so much time to all aspects of her community, cheerfuly and willingly, so Ann we wish you the best.

cONGRATS: Congratulations to Dermot Igoe, Lisavaddy, son of Seamus and Nan who married Linda Kiernan last week in Moyne. We wish you both health and happiness in your married life together.

THANKS: Thanks to all who attended the Sacred Heart Novena in Cullyfad. Thanks to Fr Sean for his beautiful celebration of Mass to mark the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We sincerely hope God will bless and reward all of you in your devotion to the Sacred Heart.

cemetery sunday: Cemetery Sunday is on July 1st. Mass will be celebrated in Cullyfad Cemetery at 9.30 am weather permitting. Do remind friends and loved ones about this. Well done to all who look after their graves so well and to the Cemetery committe for the way the keep the grounds.

COMMUNITY GAMES: The Community Games Athletics Finals took place in Leo Casey Park, Ballymahon, on Saturday the 9th. June. A total of 44 young people from the Parish participated in both Field and Track events. In the individual events, Killoe won 3 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronze. In the Relay events, Killoe won 2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronze. The medal winners are as follows:- GIRLS:- U12 100M – Orla Macken 2nd; U12 Ball Throw – Emily McCarthy 2nd; U14 Hurdles - Katie Morrissey 3rd; U14 Long Kick – Molly Clarke 3rd; BOYS:- U8 60M – Patrick Moran 2nd; U8 80M – Gavin Farrelly 1st; U10 100M – Darren Moffett 3rd; U12 100M – James Moran 1st; U12 600M – Evan Farrelly 2nd; U14 100M – Niall Finneran 2nd; U14 800M – Ronan Moffett 2nd; U14 Long Kick – Conor Gilna 3rd; U16 100M – Ciaran Donohoe 1st; U16 1500M – Eddie Coyle 2nd. RELAYS:- Girls U12 Relay Team of Niamh Brady, Orla Macken, Emily McCarthy, and Niamh Harte took 2nd. Place; Boys U12 Relay Team of James Moran, Euan Finneran, Enda Bracken, and Evan Farrelly took 1st. Place; Boys U14 Relay Team of Eamon Keogh, Niall Finneran, Niall Farrelly, Ronan Moffett, and Jack Sorohan took 3rd. Place; Boys U16 Relay Team of Shane Thompson, Ciaran Donohoe, Oisin Bennett, and Edward Coyle took 1st. Place; Mixed U13 Relay Team of Paul Brady, Fiona Hebron, Shane Morrissey, and Sinead Donohoe took 3rd. Place; Mixed U15 Relay Team of Shauna Rowley, Katie Morrissey, Brian Harte, and David McCarthy took 2nd. Place. All gold medal winners go forward to represent County Longford in the National Finals in Athlone from the 24th. To 26th. August. Congratulations to all medal winners and well done to everyone who represented Killoe on the day – you all put in a mighty performance and were a credit to Killoe. Many thanks to Rita Moran for coaching and preparing our athletes for the County Final and to all who helped out in any way with the training over the last number of weeks. Thanks also to all the Killoe supporters who turned up on the day and who encouraged our athletes for all of the events. Many thanks to the great turn out of helpers and volunteers from Killoe who helped out in the running of this event in Ballymahon.

SYMPATHY: Sincere condolence is extended to Brian O’Hara and familiesLoughinstown,Rathowen,Co Westmeath (formerly Aughaboy Killoe Co Longford),Walsh families Co Kilkenny,O’Hara families Augaboy Killoe on the sad bereavement of Brian’s wife Nora (nee Walsh formerly Carrigen Co Kilkenny) who was recently laid to rest. The parish express sympathy to Nora’s husband Brian, son Michael,daughters Eileen and Ann-Marie,sons/daughters in law,grandchildren,brothers Nickey/Wattie,brother in law Jimmy,sisters in law Kate-Ann,Nellie, extended families,friends. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Marys’s Church Rathowen with burial afterwards in St Emers cemetery Ballinalee Co Longford. May she rest in peace.

CEMETERY BLESSINGS: Killoe parish cemetery Sunday will be held on Sunday July 1,2012. St Olivers Cullyfad at 9.30am, St Mary’s Aughaboy at 11am. Mass will be celebrated in both cemeteries weather permitting. If not mass will be celebrated in both churhes. Old Killoe cemetery blessing of graves at 12.30pm. We wish to remind grave holders that no weeds flowers or containers are to be left at side or behind graves. Please remove any weeds that may be growing around the outside of your plots. When strimming or cutting grass please ensure your neighbouring graves or walkways are not plastered with grass and must be cleaned up and all debris removed from the graveyard. So don’t forget your bags. A brush/pan , sweeping brush and container for watering flowers are inside the wall for your use and please return to their place of rest. Many hours of voluntary physical labour are input to maintain the upkeep and we now have a nice plaque and signs to assist visitors. Sincere thanks to Mikie Jo Campbell for continuing help,Vincent Lennon for wall plastering ,all plot holders for their continuous respect to the deceased’s place of rest.

SUMMER COURSE: An Irish language (Siamsa) Summer course will be held in Gaelscoil Longford from Monday 9 to Friday 13 July 2012 starting at 9.30am - 3pm daily catering for students from third – sixth class. Further particulars and application forms available from Yvonne Ni Mhurchu tel 087 2642665.

DRAMA: Bright Sparks Drama and art Summer Camp commences on Monday 16 – Friday 20 July 2012 in Ennybegs Community Centre Killoe from 10am- 2pm daily for children ages 4 – 13 years. Cost 50 euro per child with discounts for families. Further details ,booking contact Cathy 087 1142669.

CONDOLENCE: Sincere sympathy is extended to the McAliney families New York, Michael and Ann (nee Thrapp) Lynch and families Templemichael Glebe Longford,Willie Thrapp and families Dernacross Killoe on the sad bereavement of their mother Mary (Cissy) McAliney (nee Lynch late of Dernacross Killoe) and pre-deceased by her husband Thomas (formerly family from Ballinamuck Co Longford) who was recently laid to rest. Exposition blessed sacrament in both Churhes Wednesday from 6- 10pm. Longford County Council have nominated the Titanic Memorial Gardens Ennybegs Killoe for a Pride of Place award. Judging on Wednesday 20 June 2012, Slide presentation and refreshments in Ennybegs Community Centre Killoe at 10.45am. All are invited to attend.

ICA Gardening Comp: This is the last week for getting your entries in for the ICA Gardening Competition. Flower Garden Section: Confined to ICA members only. 1st Prize : Philo Kelly Trophy and valuable runner up prizes. Vegetable Garden Section: Open to all gardeners male and female in Co. Longford. 1st Prize: Quinn Supply Stores Trophy, and valuable runner up prizes. Entries before June 23rd. Judging will take place during the 1st and 2nd week in July.
