First Friday

Friday, 3 July is the First Friday. The sick and housebound will be attended as usual. First Friday confessions will be held in Abbeylara Church at 7.00pm followed by First Friday Mass at 7.30pm. You are all welcome to attend.


Mass will be held on Saturday, 4 July in Carra at 11.00am with Confessions.

Carra Cemetery

Thanks very much to the people who helped with the felling of some trees on Wednesday, 24 June in Carra Cemetery. It was necessary to do this work for safety reasons.


We welcome Sr. Olga and other members of the St. Elisabeth’s Convent, Belarus to our Parish on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 July. They will speak at Masses about their Ministry in Belarus Orphanage and display their crafts. Please support.

Wedding bells

Congratulations to Pádraig Smith, son of Pat and Mary, Dalystown, Granard and Marian Lewis, daughter of Kingsley and Margaret, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary who were married in St. Cronan’s Church, Roscrea on Thursday, 28 May. A reception for family, friends and neighbours followed in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone. We wish the happy young couple every blessing for the future.

Cemetery Sunday

Mass will be celebrated in the New Cemetery in Granardkille on Sunday, 26 July at 1pm and in the old Cemetery Granardkille on Sunday, 2 August at 11.30am.

FETAC Level 5 Courses

Ardscoil Phádraig are currently finalising their enrolment process for FETAC Level 5 courses in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. These FETAC Level 5 courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. GAA Club

Annual Lotto tickets urgently due back, sold with money and also unsold tickets to be returned. Draw for fully paid up members deferred from Thursday, 25 June to Thursday 2 July, due to the large number of outstanding tickets not returned. Please return your tickets and money to Kevin Murphy, Carra. Lotto results 25 June 2015; No Lotto draw this week. Instead there will be two of the usual weekly draws next week. Also draw for the €100 fully paid up members.

Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer Drivers are needed in County Longford to drive Cancer patients to treatments. Vintage Day

All tractors, especially vintage ones are reminded that our Philip Moran Memorial Tractor Run takes place on Saturday, 11 July starting from the park at 4.00pm and ending back at the park for a B.B.Q. All drivers will get free admission to the B.B.Q. and the public are welcome to come along and purchase admission tickets at €5. This year we will donate to the Irish Heart Foundation, St. Mary’s Church Building Fund and the Church of Ireland, Streete upkeep fund. Any donations of Spot Prizes etc. will be greatly appreciated and can be left in the shop in Streete. Active Retirement

Over 50, time to spare an hour on a Thursday morning from 11.00am in the Sports Centre.  Come along and join in the fun, we do all sorts of exercises.  You can do these movements by sitting on chairs or moving about and letting your hair down, lots of fun and craic.  Why not give it a try; we will make you feel welcome.

Community Games

All the best to our U13 boys’ basketball team who travel to Kildare this Saturday to compete in the Leinster semi finals/finals. The team is Brian Masterson, Conor Leonard, Ciarán Scanlon, Eoin Jelly, Cian O’Reilly, Mathew Quinn, Tommy Corcoran, and Caylon Lynch along with their coach Irene lynch and Dean have all put on a huge amount of work and we wish them well. 


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €20,000. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!

Gun Club

The Club are holding their AGM this Friday night (July 3) at 9pm sharp in the shooting grounds in Derragh. All members please attend as membership and compensation cover for the coming year is now due. New members are also welcome.

Talk The Walk

A 5km walk in aid of Samaritans hosted by Longford GAA will take place on 4 July, starting at 8am from Pearse Park. Registration fee €10. Minimum of 4 participants from each club.
