Road traffic collision
Units from Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service were alerted to attend a single vehicle road traffic collision on Tuesday afternoon last, June 23rd, at Whitehall, Castlepollard. Firefighters using specialist cutting equipment stabilised the vehicle and removed the single occupant, who was then transported by paramedics from the National Ambulance Service in attendance to Mullingar Midland Regional Hospital. Local Gardai were in attendance, and the road was blocked to traffic while rescue operations were underway. Castlepollard Fire & Rescue Service were also in attendance at a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a van on Friday morning last, June 26th, shortly after 7am, on the Delvin road from Collinstown. The vehicle involved caught fire, and firefighters brought the fire under conrol using CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System). Traffic flow was interrupted. Castlepollard fire servide were also in attendance at a bog fire on The Ross Road from Finea on the border with Mountnugent on Friday afternoon, June 26th, in the late afternoon.
Land League of Ireland

Courses
Fetac Level 5 courses are available for enrolment from Ardscoil Phadraig in Granard in Animal Care and Nursing Studies. The Fetac Courses are suitable for school leavers and mature students wishing to return to education and gain new skills or employment. These courses also provide links to certain courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology and can be worth up to 400 points. 50 mile challenge
The Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge in of the Irish Cancer Society and the LARCC Centre in Multyfarnmham which took place recently, realised the sum of 90,311 euros. An astonishing amount. Very well done to all who participated on the day, or who organised or helped in any way.
Camogie Club
Next Sunday, July 5th, will see a 7K Race/Fun Run/ Walk in aid of Castlepollard Camogie Club taking place from The Anchor Bar, starting at 3.00pm. Cost for adults is 10.00 euro, and 5.00 for U.16’s. For further information contact 044-9661002, or 087-9436865.

With the Summer days now firmly with us, it is important to remember that criminals are still with us also. Please ensure that when leaving home you have secured windows and doors firmly, and activated alarms where fitted. Summertime is not a holiday season for thieves, who work all year round. Make sure to lock and secure caravans, trailers, and any other equipment which cannot be locked in a shed etc.
The late Catherine Fagan
The local community were saddened to learn of the death which took place in the tender care of Elm Green Hursing Home, on Monday, June 22nd, of Catherine (Kitty) Fagan, (nee Meehan) of Castleknock, Dublin 15, and formerly of Clonsilla and Loughpark, Castlepollard. The remains reposed at home in Castleknock from 2.00pm on Friday, June 26th, with removal to St. Michael’s Church, Castlepollard, arriving at 7.00pm. The funeral took place following Requiem Mass on Saturday, June 27th, at 12.00 noon, and internment took place afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery. The attendance at the removal, Mass and funeral was very large and widely representative of the esteem in which the deceased was held. Kitty was cherished wife of the late Paddy, and is survived by her sons Norbert and Christopher, daughter Mary, grandchildren David, Niall, Orlaith, Ailbhe, Cian, Cormac, Ciaran and Grainne, sister Mollie, son-in-law Fergal, daughters-in-law Una and Orla, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
