Sympathy is extended to Sean Degnan and Bernie Lynch, Culleeenmore on the death of their aunt, Eileen Stack, Ballyalla, Ennis at Regional Hospital, Limerick on June 30th. Predeceased by her husband, Michael, she is survived by her son, John, daughter Maureen, sister Rosie, grandchildren, nephews and nieces to whom our condolences are extended. May she rest in peace.


Best wishes to St. Columba’s who travel to Maguire Park, Ballinalee to take on near neighbours and old rivals, Abbeylara in round 1 of senior championship on this Friday, 18th July. Throw in is at 8p.m. Please check fixtures for confirmation of this.

Social evening

On this Saturda, 19th July, a social evening will take place in Michael Dolan’s Lounge, Aughnacliffe in aid of St. Thomas’ Church Restoration Fund and The Dialysis Unit at Cavan General Hospital. Music is by ‘’One Nite Only’’ with dancing from 10.00p.m. - 12.30a.m. Voluntary donations would be very much appreciated. Support would be very much appreciated.

Water Safety

Irish Water Safety, Swimming and Lifesaving classes will be held at Fitzpatrick’s Shore, Loch Gowna from Monday, 14th July to Friday, 25th July at 11.00am and 3.00pm daily. Cost per child is €32. Registration will take place on lake shore on Monday, 14th at 10.30am. Rosie Run

As a result of the very successful venture of the initial run in 2013, the second Rosie Run in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) will take place in Loch Gowna on this Sunday, 20th July at 1pm. All are invited to walk / run 5K to raise much needed funds for this worthy cause. Registration will take place in Loch Gowna Community Centre from 11.30a.m. Refreshments will be served in the community centre afterwards. Your support would be appreciated.

Tidy Towns

Adjudication in the tidy towns competition will take place shortly. All residents in the area are requested to look after their area. We remind all to be aware of litter..

Summer Camp

Forms have been given out to the local school for the summer camp which will take place at St. Columba’s G.A.A grounds. The annual camp will run this year from Monday, 11th August to Friday, 15th August for 4 – 7 age group. 8-12 year olds will be catered for from Monday, 18th August to Friday, 22nd August. Lotto draw

St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto draw in The Angler’s Rest on Thursday, 10th July. The winning numbers were 3 , 4, 8, 29 with the jackpot of €5,600 remaining intact. Consolation prizes of €20 each were won by the following. Mary Fitzpatrick, Kilmore. Conor & Cillian Leonard, Aughanoran. Paddy Donohoe, Lisney. Áine O’Reilly, Crenew, Kilnaleck and Ronan McGovern, Toome. On sales for this week are as follows - Hideaway: Michael Cunningham. Keogh’s/Angler’s Rest: Frankie & Finbar. Kilcogy: Francis Mulligan & Ben Cusworth. If unable to sell please arrange a substitute and drop tickets into Cloonagh P.O before 5.30p.m on Monday evening.

Ladies Footballers

As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local post office or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday’s night main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are available for €50 by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The winning number on Saturday 12th July was 18. Thomas Hourican, Mullinroe earned himself €20.

5km/1Okm Run

St. Columba’s GFC in conjunction with Longford Hospice will hold a 5km/ 10km run through Derrycassin Wood on Saturday, 30th August at 12 noon. Accurate course / chip timing will be a option for those wishing to avail of it. At the start of the race a chip is attached to your arm and your time is recorded. Chip entry fee is €15 and €10 for fun walkers. Registration will take place at entrance to the ‘’Laurels’’ beside Derrycassin Wood from 10.30a.m. Alternatively one can enter online at Refreshments will be served afterwards. Support would be very much appreciated. Please inform family and friends away from the area. There will be prizes for Males, Females and Veterans.

Tractor Run

The Philip Sorohan Memorial Tractor Run will take place on this Sunday, 20th July. Proceeds will be donated to Patient Care Fund, St. Joseph’s Care Centre, Longford and Arus Carolan Nursing Unit, Mohill.
