Tidy Towns

Drumlish village and all the approach roads are blighted with litter and dumping these past few months - Drumlish Tidy Town’s have organised a major clean up from Kilnashee to the GAA Park in Monaduff for Saturday 8th March. All families living along this route are asked to help as are all the parish organisations asked to give a hand. One big heave will clear the verges in a couple of hours, Gloves, hi viz vests, bags and litter picks will be supplied - Meet opposite the Post Office in Drumlish for 9am.

Longford County Choir

Advance notice of upcoming choral concert at St. Mary’s Church, Drumlish on Sunday 4th  May next (Bank Holiday weekend). This fundraiser is for the marking of Heritage in this historic village. More anon.

St Helens

A Lock of Fierce Roars starring Blaise Reid, Emer O’Carroll, Paddy Dean and Niall Bruton. St. Helen’s LFC Drumlish in conjunction with Moth Productions are hosting the play ‘A Lock of Fierce Roars’. This play is written and directed by John McManus. The play will be performed in the ’98 Hall Ballinamuck on Wednesday night 26th February. It starts at 8.00pm and doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are 10 euro each and can be bought in all local stores, or from any committee member. Tickets will also be available on the night. Tickets can also be ordered in advance by calling 086-1752773 or 086-1071990. As this is a local fundraiser for St. Helen’s we are hoping to see a large turnout on the night showing your support. A great night of laughter from beginning to end is promised.

Cairn Hill Challenge

The 2nd Annual Cairn Hill Challenge 10mile and 10km Road Race will take place on Sunday May 3rd 2014 starting out at Drumlish Community Centre and taking the same routes as last year. In conjunction with this years’ event, an informal walking/running/ jogging group is being organised. This fun group will act as preparation for the big race and getting fit generally. It will start on February 11th at 7pm at Drumlish Community Centre and will be led by expert coach Brendan Doyle from Longford. This is a wonderful opportunity for runners, walkers, joggers and athletes of all abilities to get together and get fit in a relaxed setting while preparing for the May Bank Holiday. Lourdes Collection

On behalf of the assisted pilgrims we thank all who contributed a total of €931 to the collection last Sunday.

Planning for Lent

With Lent beginning next week March 5th now is a good time to plan for this special season. Fr. Jim Sorohan will lead a prayerful reflection on St. Mathew’s Passion on Thursday evenings from 8.00 – 9.00pm at his residence.

Troaire Lentan Boxes can be picked up as yu leave the church. Lent is a time for reaching out to our wider human and Christian family Family Prayer, Stations of the cross, Daily Mass, Fasting , and acts of Penance etc all form part of our Lentan preparation. Make the most of this grace filled time.

Bereavement Course

A six week bereavement course begins in the Family Centre, Longford on Wednesday, 5th March (Ash Wednesday) at 8pm. This course is led by two trained bereavement facilitators. Feed back from previous courses has been very positive. Booking and further information contact 043-3346827/087-2843034.

Recent deaths


The death took place on February 6th at St.Patrick’s Community Hospital Fermoy, Co.Cork of James(Jim) Connell. To his sons Kevin &Mark, daughter Nicola, grandchildren Maria, Jack, Emily, ,Mikala, Shannon, & Ryan, brothers Frank(England) John(Fardromin, Ballinamuck,) sister(Bridie(London), sister-in-law,, daughter-in-law Mary, nephews & nieces especially Sheila(Corrigan)Eamon, Gerard, Dessie, Deirdre Harte, Anne Regan, Seamus, Noel, Nigel, and Marie, their partners and families all living in and around Ballinamuck,, neighbours and friends to whom we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.

Lynch nee Creegan

The death took place in San Diego California, of Mary(Baby) Lynch (nee Creegan) formerly Drumlish. To her daughter, brothers Myles,Drumlish, Matthew (England), sister Eileen (San Diego), sisters-in-law, relatives and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.


The death took place at her home in Kellether, Killoe of Teresa Igoe (nee Gilchrist). To her husband Seán, daughter Elaine, son Raymond, mother Eileen (Ballagh, Newtownforbes), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, uncles, cousins, neighbours and friends, we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.


The death took place recently of Mick Sorohan, Fardromin, Ballinamuck. To his brother John, Newtownforbes, sister Alice Healy, Clonelly, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, especially Fr. Charlie Healy, cousins, neighbours, and friends we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. Mick was a member of the Eire Óg (now Fr. Manning Gaels) Football team in 1953, and 1955.


The death of Michael (Mickey) Shaughnessy (Cattle Dealer), took place on Friday last in the loving care of the doctors, nurses and staff of St. James’ Hospital Dublin. To his wife Kathleen, sons Gerard, Ronan, and Raymond, daughters Patricia & Michelle, grandson Michael, son-in-law Gary, daughter-in-law Ria, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and his wide circle of neighbours and friends, we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy.


The death took place on Saturday night last of Bernadette Kenny, Legan.
