Year of faith
A celebration of Faith and Ministry, ordained and lay, and the promotion of vocations, by the Granard Deaneary of Parishes will take place in the Deanery church, Saint Mary’s Granard at 7:30pm on Monday, October 21 next, the day after Mission Sunday. The theme of the celebration is that of Mission Sunday, GROWING IN FAITH. A steering group, representative of deanery parishes, are making arrangements for all parishes in the deanery to participate, together with Bishop Colm, and our new bishop, Francis, and diocesan priests, religious, and lay people, who have shared their faith development expertise with our parishes. The church celebration will be followed by a fellowship of refreshments and an impromptu of music, song, and dance in the community centre in Granard.
On Sunday evening November 3rd, Longford County Choir will perform a special concert in St. Mary’s church in Granard and they will be joined by the ever popular Mulligan sisters and also by many talented youngsters from the local schools in the parish of Granard. Tickets for this concert will be on sale in the coming days and all proceeds go to Lus na Greine family Resource Centre. All support will be greatly appreciated. Full details later.
St Vincent de Paul
The Granard branch of St. Vincent de Paul will host a fashion show in the community centre in Granard on Tuesday night October 22nd next with all proceeds going to the local branch.This promises to be a great night and all support will be greatly appreciated.
On Monday night October 21st next Frank Kilbride will launch his new TV show on sky 191 with a seated concert in the Park House Hotel at which a host of well known artists will be appearing. This show will be recorded for sky television and doors will be open at 7-30pm and there are a limited number of tickets available at the Hotel reception. We wish Frank continued success with his new show.
The Quare Land
Bunlahy Area action group will host a play The Quare Land in the community centre in Granard on Friday night November 8th and full details will be announced later. Tickets are now on sale from committee members.
Shoe box collection
Once again the pupils and teachers of St. Patrick’s national school Killeen are taking part in the TEAM HOPE Christmas Shoe Box Appeal for children in Romania, Kenya, Moldova and other disadvantaged countries. Items which can be put in the boxes include small clothing, pens, colouring books, skipping ropes, tooth brushes and other hygiene items. The boxes may be left at the school before November 4th and your support will be appreciated.
Sincere congratulations and good wishes are extended to our new Bishop, Francis Duffy, as he starts out as the new leader of the church in our diocese and we extend our sincere thanks to Bishop Colm and wish him many happy and healthy years in his retirement.
Congratulations to Anthony and Vera Clarke, Castlenugent, on the birth of their twins, a boy and girl, on Saturday September 28th last. The new arrivals to the Clarke family are welcome brother and sister for Caroline, Aisling, Antone and Laura.
