Art Classes

Art classes have now resumed at Bridgeways Resource Centre, just accross from St. Matthews Church in Ballymahon. Beginners classes on Tuesday mornings from 11a.m. to 1p.m. and advanced classes on Tuesday evenings from 8p.m. to 10pm. Both sessions welcome men and women. You can learn about Drawing, colour/painting and art appreciation. Last year some of the group were brought on an Outing to the National Art Gallery in Dublin and it is anticipated that this will happen again in May 2014. Station Masses

The Autumn Station Masses are celebrated between now and the 1st November. Anyone wishing to host a Station Mass in their home should let Fr. Padraig know as soon as possible.

Jiving Lessons

Social Dancing started in Cooneys Hotel on Saturday night last with the very popular Pauric Farrell and Fanfare playing the lively music from 9p.m. to 11p.m. The first night was well attended and admission is only €7.50. Free Jiving lessons are being held for the hour beforehand, from 8pm. to 9pm. Everyone is welcome to go along and join in the fun.

Piano Lessons

A qualified teacher is taking bookings in the Ballymahon and Kenagh area for Piano lessons for beginners to advanced level. Preparation for all grades. Preparation for Junior and Leaving Certificate practical examinations. For further details please telephone 086-1676583 or 04333-22454.

Musical Bingo

Something different, Ballymahon Forgney Gaels are holding a Musical Bingo Fundraiser in Cooney’s Loft on Friday 25th October at 9.30pm. There will be great prizes on the night and great fun for all. 2 Games for €5. Tickets are available from all Club members.

Give Blood

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding a Blood Donor clinic in The Longford Arms Hotel this week, Wednesday 9th October and Thursday 10th October from 4.30p.m. to 8pm. You are invited to attend, donors who donate regularly are vital in helping to ensure that sufficient quantities of blood and blood components are constantly available to supply hospitals, throughout the country.


Hard luck to the Ballymahon Senior football team who lost the Final in the Tommy Moran Cup to Granard played in Clonguish on Saturday evening last.

Home from holidays

Welcome home to Oliver and Mary Colohan, Creevaghbeg who have returned from their trip to Spain last week. We hope you both enjoyed the break.

Ordination of new Bishop

Many congratulations to Fr. Francis Duffy, native of Co Cavan who on Sunday last was ordained as the successor to Bishop Colm at a very special ceremony in Athlone. The event was attended by Bishop Colm, Cardinal Sean Brady and the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown. We send our very good wishes for good health in his retirement to Bishop Colm, a very popular bishop of the diocese for the past thirty years and we wish Bishop Francis every success and happiness in the years ahead.

Irish Dancing

Classes have resumed in St. Dominic’s Community centre in Kenagh on Mondays at 5.30p.m. No wigs, fake tans or make-up for the dancers. Parents are welcome to stay at the classes if they wish. Pioneer Dinner Dance

The annual Regional Pioneer Dinner Dance takes place in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Friday 1st November at 9p.m. Music will be supplied by the ever popular J & S Sound and there will be numerous spot prizes on the night. Non Pioneers are very welcome to attend and tickets are available from Paddy McCormack, Terlicken.

Tidy Towns

Well done to the Ballymahon Tidy towns group who, because of their hard work during the year, have had their marks improved this year from 201 to 211, a great achievement for you all. The 2013 Super Valu Tidy Towns adjudicators commented that the Main street was looking very well with many buildings cleanly painted in eye-catching shades and that the murals on derelict or unused buildings were a great intervention. Congratulations to all the Tidy Towns Taskforce, the town is looking great, its a credit to you all.

21st Birthday

Congratulations to Aisling Farrell, Forgney who celebrated her 21st Birthday with her family and friends in Skellys pub on Saturday night last. Best wishes to Aisling for the future.

Bon Voyage

We wish a safe journey back to brother and sister Ray and Casandra Kelly, son of Brendan, Ballyclimea. Ray was home for a holiday from Boston and Casandra was over from Germany. We hope you both enjoyed your holiday here.

Well done

To Fergal Kelly who was the referree at the County Final on Sunday afternoon between Longford Slashers and Dromard in Glennon Bros Pearse Park and his officials - Feidhlim Kelly, Paul Kelly, Paddy O’Toole and Patrick McGuire. Well done on a great job Fergal.


Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Paul McCormack, Lissoy, The Pigeons whose death occured last week. Paul’s remains were laid to rest at Tubberclair Cemetery. May he rest in peace.


On sunday next, 13th October, Pope Francis will consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Virgin Statue of Fatima will be flown to the Vatican for this special event. To join in solidarity with Pope Francis, you are invited to come to St. Matthews Church on Sunday 13th October at 8.00pm. to pray the Rosary.
