Feast of the Assumption
Next Friday is the feast of the Assumption and is a feast of obligation. Vigil Mass in Drumlish on Thursday at 8.00pm. Mass on Friday at 11.00am and in Ballinamuck on Friday at 7.30pm.
Monster Bingo in the 98 Hall, Ballinamuck on Sunday, 17th of August at 3pm in conjunction with the Marquee in Drumlish €2,500 in prize money plus monster raffle.
Ballinamuck Olde Fair Day The committee for Ballinamuck Olde Fair Day are proud to announce their 2nd annual Fair Day on Sunday, 17th of August. It promises to be even bigger and better than last year. The Day will begin with a Vintage Parade from Gaigue Cross at 1.30pm to the ‘98 Bar. Declan Nerney will lead the parade, and all vintage vehicles will then be on display at the ‘98 and in the field. We will also have pony and trap rides, three legged race, egg & spoon races, mouse racing, cow bingo, ducking ponds, ICA tea tent, children’s activities, music and dancing and lots lots more!!! Our special attractions this year are Blacksmith at work, Our dog show and 1960s model railway trains, with more surprises on the day. So a date for your diary!!!!
On Saturday, the 16th of August next, St Vincent’s are holding their annual Fun Day in Monaduff from 1pm to 5pm in conjunction with the Marquee in Drumlish. There will be lots of entertainment and activities for all the children. There will be Ireland’s largest Inflatable Climbing Wall on the day. We will also be hosting U/8 and U/10 games where St Vincents will play against Killoe Og and Clonbroney. Our annual Parish League will also be held on the day this will be open to all boys and girls from the parish aged between 11 to 14 years. Other Activities will include Carnival Corner where there will be lots of prizes to be won, face painting, balloon modelling, Pet farm with lots of your favourite farmyard pets, bouncing castles, little Mr and Miss Marquee 2014, pony rides, penalty shoot out and many more games. We will also be hosting a Dog show sponsored by Maxi Zoo with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category. Registration for Dog Show is at 3pm sharp. Refreshments will be served throughout the day including a barbecue. Live entertainment throughout the day also. On the day we will also have an ice-cream stand where all proceeds from this will go to Down Syndrome Ireland. Admission on the day is free.
Marquee in Drumlish Festival The following is the line up for the Marquee Festival from August 15th-18th. Friday night 15th Hermitage Green followed by D J Fergal Darcy. Saturday 16th Johnny Brady followed by Nathan Carter. Sunday 17th Poroma followed by Damien Dempsey followed by Mundy and the Aftermath. Monday 18th Declan Nerney celebrates 25 years in the music business. Four hour show on all nights. Saturday 16th Fun Day at Monaduff. Congratulations to Helena Brady, Clonellan Drumlish and John McGovern Glasheen, Drumlish who were married on Friday last. We join their families and friends in wishing John and Helena every blessing and happiness in the future. Further details next week.

The AGM of the 98 memorial hall will take place at. 8.30pm on Wednesday, 27th of August in the meeting room. We are looking for new members from the community to come along and get involved in your valuable community asset .
Ballinamuck Enterprise A meeting of Ballinamuck Enterprise will take place this Wednesday 13th at 9.00pm in the visitor centre. All members are asked to attend. The Ballinamuck Visitor Centre is run by Ballinamuck Enterprise group and is operated by volunteers and anyone can visit the centre by calling 0872055462/0879613312 or by emailing email@example.com to visit and all are welcome.
Ballinamuck Bingo continues every Tuesday at. 8.30pm, prize fund on the night €1300. Fun for all ages, see you there !

Gaels Utd FC
Gaels Utd FC recently held their annual AGM in Drumlish Community Centre. Chairperson Colin Crowe addressed a large crowd and spoke of the busy year on and off the field. With around 150 players up to 17 years of age and a newly established Senior team, Gaels Utd FC is growing every year and catering for an ever expanding player base. Colin went on to congratulate all teams and managers who took part in the various competitions during last season and commented particularly on parents involvement in the club while thanking everyone who helped out during the year. The Finance committee were thanked for their dedicated work so far as the Club seeks to develop a new 11 a side pitch. Deceased members and relatives of the club who recently passed away were also remembered while Longford Leader correspondents Padraig O’Brien and Elizabeth Brady were thanked for their kind assistance throughout the season. The following officers were elected. Chairperson: Colin Crowe, Vice Chairperson: Martin Devlin, Secretary: Anna Robinson, Vice Secretary: Darren Fitzgerald, Treasurer: Mel Crowe, Vice Treasurer: Eoin Brady. PRO: Brian Courtney, Child Welfare Officer: Jimmy Ruske. There will be a managers meeting in the next couple of weeks and a registration evening will also take place at this time.
The Longford Branch of the Irish Kidney Association wish to thank sincerely all who contributed to their recent church gate collection in Ballinamuck and Drumlish. The total amount collected was €640.00, which has been forwarded to The Irish Kidney association.

Co Longford Tourism
Co Longford Tourism board wish to remind you of the following events taking place this month in the County. The Co. Longford Tourism Committee is hosting the inaugural Ray Flynn Mile in Longford Town on Saturday, the 23rd August, in honour of the Longford native, who holds the Irish record for the 1500 meters and the mile, as well as a world record as part of an all-Irish 4*1 mile relay team. This race will be run on the Ballinalee Road, beginning at the roundabout and finishing at St Mel’s Cathedral Car Park. The meeting point will be the Enterprise Centre on the Ballinalee road. The event will help form part of a running festival weekend in Longford, which includes the 13th Annual Longford Marathon, scheduled for Sunday the 24th of August. The Ray Flynn event will include an elite race, an over 40s race, and juvenile races. People who just want to support the Tourism committee are most welcome and are invited to walk the mile with friends or family. Registration is €10 for adults and €4 for juveniles, and advance registration is available through Eventbrite, www.eventbrite.ie People who are registered to run in the marathon on the following day can run the mile event at a subsidised fee of €5. The Royal Canal Heritage Walk - As part of National Heritage Week, Longford Tourism are hosting a heritage walk along the route of The Royal Canal from Richmond Harbour in Clondra. Led by Fr Tom Murray this interesting and informative walk will take in some of the beautiful scenery of the newly opened Royal Canal Cycleway. Refreshments will be served afterwards in The Richmond Inn, Clondra. The walk starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening 26th August.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, 7th September. Ceremonies begin at 2.30pm with the Anointing of the Sick followed by Mass at 3.00pm. If you wish to travel by bus, which will leave Ballinamuck at 10.30am, and Drumlish at 10.40 am, it will cost €16. Order your tickets from any of the priests of the Parish.

A new study in Trinity College Dublin is looking to gain an insight into the health and wellbeing of those who care for their spouse/partner with dementia. If you are a caregiver aged over 50 years and living with a partner who has Alzheimer’s disease or another form of Dementia you may be interested in taking part.
