Table Quiz

Local lads John Kelly, Brendan Noone, Emmet Keenan, David Farrell, Dessie Murphy and Cathal Whitney are holding a table quiz in aid of Focus Ireland. The table quiz is being held in the Community Centre in Ardagh on Good Friday, 18th April, at 9pm. Adults €40 per table. Juveniles €30 per table. Raffle and spot prizes on the night. Your support would be greatly appreciated.


Ardagh Bowls Club is progressing in The Basil O’Sullivan Memorial Cup. On Tuesday night last, we played Tyrellspass A, away in Tyrellspass where our bowlers played superbly to win the semi final by nine shots. We have now reached another final where we play the winners of Tyrellspass B or Castlepollard, time and date to be arranged. Thursday night next is the last night for taking names for our own competition.

Fianna Fail A.G.M.

The Fianna Fail A.G.M. takes place on this Friday night, 28th March at 9.30 in Paschal Lyons. Councillors and candidates will be in attendance. All are welcome.

Heritage and Creativity Centre

Creative Ardagh would like to thank everyone who helped make the President’s visit a success. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit we encountered in the preparation time and on the day. Thank you all so much. Thank you also to the many people who accepted our open invitation to attend. We were delighted to have you with us on the day and it was lovely to see so many of you return again for the Leprechaun hunt on Saturday and the Craft Fair on Sunday. Photos can be seen on, and downloaded from, our Facebook page and website. Remember you can book group sessions and parties any time and keep an eye out for details on our Easter Event.

Congratulations to the 3rd & 4th Class Boys team from St. Mel’s National School, Ardagh, that won 1st place in Junior Boys age group at the inaugural Co. Longford National Schools Sportshall Athletics Competition held at Moyne Secondary School on 19 March. This pilot programme was run by the Longford Sports Partnership introducing the athletics concepts of speed, balance and coordination through relay, throwing and jumping events. Ben Callan, Conor Hogan, Jack Gallagher, Diarmuid Farrell, Dylan Fay, Sean Hogan, Daniel Hayden, Cathal Farrell and Brendan Finnan all go forward to represent Longford on March 26 in the All-Ireland Indoor Sportshall Championship in Athlone where they will compete against teams from 15 other counties.

Community Games

The Friday evening Youth Activities has finished for this year. There just seems to be too many things going all on Fridays so we will put a stop to the club until September. The County race for selecting the Mixed Distance Relay U12 & U14 and Cross County teams will take place on Friday, 4 April at Ballymahon GAA grounds, registration at 6pm, €2 entry. Training this Sat at 5pm at Ardagh Soccer pitch for any child interested. Skittles for U12-16 will also take place on 4 April at the same time and venue. 11-a-side Outdoor Soccer for U12 will be held in Abbeycartron on Sat 5 April, registration at 9:30am. Tag Rugby will be held Saturday, 26 April at the Longford Rugby Club starting at 9:30am. A few more players are still needed, so it’s not too late to join the Tag Rugby team, training at Ardagh GAA pitch Thursdays at 6:30pm. Any child that is on a team that has won at County Community Games level please note Leinster matches will be played between 30 May-11 June. Keep up the practice! Art: Well done to all the children who took part in the annual Community Games Art competition. There were some very colourful and imaginative pictures that can be seen on our Ardagh/Moydow/Glen Community Games facebook page so be sure to take a look. Thanks to Jacinta Farrell, Sinead Gallagher, Catherine and David Hoysted, Eamon O’Kane, Leslie Finnan, Ann Smyth and Annette Corkery for giving their time organising, supervising and judging this year. Churchgate Collection: Thank you to everyone in the parish who contributed to our annual AMG Community Games collection last weekend at both Moydow and Ardagh churches. Your generosity is very much appreciated and will be put to good use. Handwriting: Congratulations to Saoirse McLoughlin on wining 1st place in the County Handwriting competition for the 2nd year in a row. She will go to the National Community Games Finals in August and do another piece of perfect handwriting for the National judges. Well done to Sarah Keenan and James Gillen for taking part. Talent: Congratulations to Group Singing: Katie Lynch, Ashling Farrell, Sarah Shea, Emma Thompson, Courtney Heffernan & Katie Quinn on winning 1st place in the County Talent Competition held at the Backstage Theatre last weekend. The medals did not stop there as Katie Quinn won 3rd place solo singing, Katie Lynch 2nd place recitation and 3rd place solo music. Thanks to Riona Lynch for her continued dedication in preparing all the performers and congratulations on such wonderful success this year! The group singers will now represent Longford in the Talent event at the National Finals at Athlone IT at the end of the summer. Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games held their Art competition on Friday 14th in Ardagh Community Centre. A large number of children participated and the results were announced at the Friday Club on 21 March. Congratulations to the winners who will now proceed to the County Longford Community Games competition. A special word of mention to Jacinta Farrell, Leslie Finnan, Sinead Gallagher who were the organiser’s of the activity on the night. Well done and thank you very much to all children that entered the competition.


St Brigid’s Gaels committee would like to thank all of the businesses who sponsored card pages and individuals who sponsored dogs at our recent Race Night Fundraiser. A special word of mention to Counciller Mark Casey who was the race commentator on the night, Michael Lynch for his auctionering skills and Pascal Lyons who provided the venue. We would also like to thank all that also turned up to support us on the night. Our training and match fixtures season has now commenced. U-10 and U-12 commenced on 24th March and Nursery and U-8 will commence on 31st March. Please be sure to read the weekly notes in the Leader GAA fixtures page for upcoming matches. We would also like to wish the best of luck to our U14 girls who have amalgamated with Grattans Club for the current year.
