Tuesday of last week was a very busy one in Streete Sports Complex when eight teams were in action all day from 9a.m. Two teams each from Drumshanbo, Elphin, Athy and a Dublin group. The writer had a phone call the next day praising our venue and booking again for this week and Declan had a call from a teacher in Tallaght regarding a Cadet ladies All Ireland semi-final which takes place in Streete Parish Park Sports Complex this Thursday, 16th starting at 11a.m. and we invite anyone who is available to come along to view what promises to be some great games. The teams who will be playing are from Schools in the following towns – Loughrea, Castlebar, Swords and Tallaght. It is great for our Centre to be chosen for such important games as an Ireland Semi Final. All are welcome to come along to see this great sport. Watch these notes to see upcoming games in various sports.

Please note Hall etc. must be booked in advance for games, meetings etc. and this can be done by calling Declan or Tracey on 087 9287129. Groups can book for 5 aside soccer at night among other sports when the Hall is available.

Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers visited Derrycassin Wood on the shore of Lough Gowna near Granard, on Sunday January 5th. The 179 acres of woodland are managed by Coillte and include multiple species of conifers as well as deciduous varieties such as beech and oak. Some of the beech trees date back to the time when the area was part of the Derrycassin House estate, before the 1960s when the forestry was planted. Little now remains of Derrycassin House, its walled garden and boathouse. Coillte have constructed and signed several walks through the forest, taking in the various points of interest and giving views out across Lough Gowna. On Sunday January 19th the Ramblers will meet in Kilbixy for a walk led by Teresa Coloe. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet in Kilbixy at 2pm. Please note that this year’s Walking Festival is on 9th, 10th & 11th May. Please tell your friends.
