Novena to Our Lady

The Annual Novena to prepare for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary continues in St. Mary’s Church, Granard tonight Wednesday, 06 November at 7.30p.m.

Year of Faith

Celebration of The Year of Faith 2012/2013 & Community Volunteers for Granard Deanery took place on Monday 21 October in St. Mary’s Church, Granard with Holy Mass at 7.30p.m. It was a very enjoyable and hope filled event. Many thanks to everyone who attended in such large numbers. Sincere thanks to all the people who organised, prepared and took part in the celebration. Afterwards we all enjoyed the Fellowship of food, music and song in the Community Centre, Granard. Again thanks very much to those who provided the Fellowship. Well done to all involved in this engaging and simple celebration of Holy Mass and Fellowship.

Country Markets Move

Patrons of the Country Markets in Granard are asked to please take note that the market has moved from the Community Centre and will now be held in Gerry Kiernan’s premises on upper Main Street (beside Kiernan’s butchers) starting this Friday November 8. The Markets start at 8.30 am and continue until 11.00 am.


Thanks very much too each person who supported in various ways the fundraiser for the Street Children of India which realised €1,555. This was very generous. Well done to all involved.

Drama Group

Our next meeting for our Drama Group will be held on Tuesday November 12 at 9.00pm in Crawfords Bar. Full attendance is requested. We hope to have our script ready on the night and the cast will be chosen.

Tidy Towns

Have you got your number for next Saturdays Bonus Ball. Numbers on sale in Farrell’s shop. We already had two lucky people winning twice. Results of Bonus Ball winners for September were, Eileen Mc Loughlin 05/10/13, Dina Smith 12/10/13, Ciara Kelly 19/10/13, Fiona Reilly 26/01/13. The AGM will be held on 8 November at 8pm in Sports Centre. New members are welcome.  We have lots to discuss as our points for the T/T competition are rising all the time.

Active Retirement

Our next meeting takes place on Thursday 7 November at 11am.  We have seven members attending the Computer Class on Friday mornings in Granard.  We have also started our Arts/Crafts classes recently with a great turn out of nine members. It is nice to see our members taking part in the many classes that are available.

Community Diary

A Diary is available at Granard Area Action Group office to enable local voluntary groups and fundraising events to log their forthcoming activities for the year so as to help co-ordinate events successfully and to avoid duplication where possible.

Mulligan Sisters

The Mulligan Sisters will perform Operatic and Sacred Arias along with Musical Theatre favourites in concert at the Church of St Camillus, Killucan, Co. Westmeath on Saturday November 30 at 8.00pm. Tickets are 10 euro available at the door.

Country Markets

Granard Country Markets continue every Friday morning in the community centre in Barrack Street and they are delighted to announce that they now have beautiful handmade children and baby wear along with the usual stock of scarves, cards, jewellery, bread, cakes, firewood, etc. The market is open from 8.30am to 11.00am. Please note that tea and coffee is also available.

The Quare Land

Bunlahy Area Action Group will host a play “The Quare Land” in the Community Centre in Granard on Friday night November 8 and full details will be announced later. Tickets are now on sale from committee members.


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Your continued support is very much appreciated. Jackpot is now €12,900.

Feasibility Study

Recently retired bishop of Ardagh & Clonmacnoise, Bishop Colm O’Reilly, will officially launch the feasibility study recently completed on the project to purchase the NAMA owned property at Rathcronan and create a visitor centre for the area. The event will take place on Tuesday evening next, November 12, at 8pm in the Community Centre, Barrack St. Other speakers will include RTE correspondent for the midlands, Ciaran Mullooly. This will be an interesting and informative event and everyone is invited to attend.


Due to renovations Granard Branch Library has relocated to Rath Mhuire Resource Centre at Barrack Street, Granard. It will operate each Friday from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Adult Badminton

The above takes place on Monday Nights from 8pm to 10pm in the Canon Kelly Community Hall, Granard behind Ardscoil Phádraig. Keep fit and have fun for only €3. Rackets and Shuttles are provided, 4 playing courts. For further details contact William on 086 8226523.
