Loch Gowna



It was with regret that we learned of the death of Bertie Kiernan, Toome, Dring which occurred at Tullamore General Hospital on Thursday 15th August. Bertie was a very friendly and gentle person, his passing will leave a void in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew him. He will be sadly missed by his daughters Aishling, Ruth, Yvonne and Siobhan, brother Noel, sisters Ita and Agnes, sons in law, granddaughter, sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews and nieces to whom our sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.

Blood donors

The mobile unit of the blood transfusion service will visit St Brigids Community Centre Loch Gowna on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th September. Clinic times 5pm – 8.30pm. Please note on your calendar.


The annual diocesan Ardagh and Clonmacnois pilgrimage to Knock takes place this Sunday 1st September. Bus will leave village at 9.45am.Tickets available from Mai Tierney, Corfree Road, Loch Gowna. Contact number 043 6683366.

A Gowna Bursary

A Gowna bursary to support Gowna Community members undertaking a 3rd level course is being provided by Gowna Community Association. Six bursaries of 500 euro each. A draw will determine the six successful applicants. Criteria residents in Gowna hinterland undertaking 3rd level course, letter from college confirming acceptance before bursary paid. Application letter sought with name address, mobile and 3rd level course to Jerry Fitzpatrick Drumbrista House Loch Gowna, Co Cavan. The draw will take place on Friday 20th September. Sympathy is extended to John O’Reilly Granard Road, Loch Gowna on the death of his brother Eddie O’Reilly, Cloncovid and late of Cartronfree, Kilcogy which occurred on Tuesday, 20th August at his home. Also sympathy to Eddie’s wife, Kathleen, sons, daughter and extended family. His remains were removed to Our Lady’s of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran on Thursday evening and following requiem mass on Friday at 11am, burial took place in local cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Aerobics/pilates class
