Abbeylara Field Day
The annual Abbeylara Field Day will take pace on Sunday 14th June. Always an enjoyable occasion for all the family, the organizing committee have promised that this year will be no different. With proceeds in aid of parish funds support would be very much appreciated.
Northern Gaels are holding a ‘’ Duck Racing’’ fundraiser event on Sunday 31st May at Derragh River, Abbeylara commencing at 5p.m. Lines are on sale at €5 each. Your support would be very much appreciated. Appreciation to Councillor P.J. Reilly for sponsoring the race..
Blessing of graves will follow 7.00p.m. Mass in St. Columba’s cemetery on Saturday 13th June. This is subject to weather permitting. Please inform family and friends away from home. Should inclement weather prevail Mass will be celebrated in the local church.
St. Columba’s G.F.C held their weekly lotto in The Angler’s Rest on Wednesday 20th May. The numbers drawn were 11, 12, 24, 30 with the jackpot of €7,700 remaining intact. Best wishes to Longford in their encounter with Dublin at Croke Park in the quarter final of the Leinster senior football championship on this Sunday 31st May. Throw in is at 4p.m. This game will be proceeded by Dublin taking on Galway in the senior hurling championship which will get underway at 2p.m. We encourage all supporters to make the journey to GAA headquarters and cheer on the lads in Blue and Gold. Let’s hope that there will be shock in store for the Sky Blues.
As part of their fundraising activities the local ladies football club are holding a weekly draw based on the bonus ball in the main draw of the national lottery. Sheets are on sale in the local post office or are available from any club member. Match the bonus ball in Saturday night’s main draw and you will earn yourself €20. Lines are just €2. Six monthly tickets are now due for renewal at €50 each by contacting Marie Matthews. Your support would be very much appreciated each week. The winning number on Saturday 23rd May was 39 with Seamus Hand, Larkfield coming up trumps.
A Date For Your Diary
On Friday 12th June the people of Abbeylara will celebrate the opening of their new Parish Centre with the very popular Derek Ryan and his band. We compliment the committee and Fr. Michael Campbell who with their hard work, dedication and commitment have got this project to the stage it is at now. No doubt this amenity will prove to be a tremendous asset to parishioners of Abbeylara in the years ahead. Good luck to all concerned.

A group of Spanish Students are hoping to attend a summer camp in Cnoc Mhuire, Granard from 4th July - 24th July. This is the first year for the camp in the Granard area and is an extension of the successful Moyne Community summer camp which has been running since 2011. The annual open air festival at Dring due to be held on Sunday 31st May has been cancelled for this year. The annual church gate collection for St. Christopher’s will be held that weekend at both churches. We would like to thank all our loyal supporters and look forward to next year’s festival.vv
On Sunday 31st May a poker classic will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel, Arva. Buy in cost is €30 with Rebuys, Top and Early Bird Bonus. Commencing at 6.00pm this classic is organised by friends of the late Martin Cadden. Proceeds will be donated to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund. All support would be gratefully appreciated.

It was with regret that the news of the death of Harry Ledwith, St. Patrick’s Terrace, Longford and formerly of Kilmore was received in Mullinalaghta. Harry was involved in the building industry for many years and was popular and respected with all he made contact with. May he rest in peace.
