Your prayers are requested for the happy repose of the souls of Michael Earley, Coolnagun, Lismacaffrey, Co. Westmeath, who died on Saturday, 27 December, nephew of Celia Connolly, Creevy and also nephew of Paddy Reilly, Cloughernal and for Cathal Callaghan, Morlea House, Battery Road, Longford and late of Lisnageeragh, Edgeworthstown, who died on Monday, 29 December. May they rest in peace.

Charity event

The above event was held on 28 December 2014. The amount raised to date is €1,080, many thanks to all who took part and contributed so generously. Fund remains open for a further two weeks. Donations will be accepted by Mary O’Connor, Carragh.


Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot now stands at €18,800. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early and enjoy the fun. IT COULD BE YOU!


Abbeylara GAA Club hold their AGM on Saturday, 10 January in the Handball Sports Complex, Abbeylara at 8.30pm. Nominations and Motions for the AGM to be returned, please, to the Club Secretary, Bernard Smyth. Many thanks to all the people who supported the Club’s Race night fundraising event on Saturday, 27 December in Crawford’s Bar / Lounge. Sincere thanks to everyone who supported the Race Night in any way. Also thanks very much to the people who organized the Race Night and to all the workers who took part in the event on the Race Night. An enjoyable night was had by all present. It was also a profitable night for the Club, (details of the outcome later) which is one of its main fundraising events. Once again thank you for whatever part you played to make the event successful.

A 25 Card Game takes place every Friday night in the Bay Horse, Granard at 9.30pm. New members are welcome. Refreshments served on the night.

Visitor Centre Project

Our next public meeting takes place on Monday next, 12 January 12 at 8.30pm in the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard. We will also hold our monthly draw for January at the meeting. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. At last we are now in the final stages of completing the purchase of the property from NAMA. It has been a long hard road for all concerned.
