GAA National Draw

Following the success of the first ever G.A.A. National Club Draw in 2013 it has been decided by headquarters at Croke Park to run this event on an annual basis. The purpose of this draw is to assist clubs in their drive to fundraise much needed funds. In the current economic climate small clubs like St. Columba’s are struggling financially as we do not have the outlets or the facilities that the bigger clubs have. As all prizes are sponsored by the hierarchy at Croke Park it is an ideal opportunity for clubs to raise up to €20,000. First prize for two people include All-Ireland Football Final Tickets, All-Stars banquet tickets, tour & airline tickets & accommodation. Second prize is similar with hurling tickets instead. Subsequent prizes include a trip to New York, All-Ireland Hurling & Football Final Corporate Packages 2015, Travel voucher to the value of €1500, Shopping voucher to the value of €1000 at a retailer of your choice and much more. Tickets are only €10 each. Each club retains all the proceeds from the tickets sold by their clubs. Your support for this event would be very much appreciated. Tickets are available from club members and Cloonagh P.O.

Wedding Bells

On Tuesday, 30th December, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Mullahoran was the venue for a very special wedding ceremony when marriage vows were exchanged between Shane Mulligan, son of Frankie and Angela Mulligan, Cloonagh and Karen Byrne, daughter of TJ and Mary Byrne, Glan. The chief celebrant was Fr Owen Devaney assisted by Fr. P. J. Fitzpatrick. Karen who looked stunning in her beautiful dress was given away by her father TJ. She had her sister Emer as chief bridesmaid who was assisted by her sister Kerrie, Emer McKenna and Lorna Rabbitte. Best man for the occasion was Shane’s brother Kevin with the groomsmen being his brother Francis, Mark Duignan and James McKenna. The readings were taken care of by Maria Fitzsimons and Jacqui Duignan. Prayers of the Faithful were recited by Brian Byrne, Gwen Brady, Brid Whelan, Paul McKeown and J.J. Matthews. Angela Mulligan and Mary Byrne took part in the offertory procession. The reflection was given by Laura Lynch and Pauric McNerney. Sacred music and suitable hymns for this solemn occasion were provided by Eilish Comerford and Brendan Madden. Following the ceremony the newly weds with their families and over three hundred guests travelled to the luxury Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon where a delicious meal was laid on. Among the large contingent present were many of Karen’s friends from the nursing profession and Shane’s colleagues from the Garda Síochána and fellow players from the GAA scene at county and club level. At the conclusion of the meal the celebrations continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning with everyone enjoying themselves as Mullinalaghtas and Mullahorans do on such occasions. May we take the opportunity to wish Shane and Karen all of God’s blessings and many years of happiness together.
