This Sunday night, November 2nd sees the return of the game of Whist to the community centre in Granard with the first game at 8-30pm. New players very welcome.

On Friday last, October 24th, St. Mary’s church in Granard was the setting for a lovely wedding when Fr. Simon Cadam PP united Carol Duffy and Thomas McCabe in holy marriage. Carol is daughter of Sean and Anne Duffy of Springpark, Coolarty while Thomas is son of Jim and the late Rita McCabe Aughanoran, Dring. Carol who was given in marriage by her father Sean had her sister, Laura as her chief Bridesmaid and her friends Joanne Kiernan and Jacinta Reilly were her bridesmaids while Thomas had his brother Dermot as his bestman and his friends Ruairi McElligott and Bernard Donohue were his groomsmen. The beautiful flower girls were Lorna McCabe and Glenda Clarke. The readings were by Anne Early and Gerard Mulvey while Louise Dunlea, Megan Reilly, Colette McLoughlin, James Reilly and Annemarie Clarke read the prayers of the faithful and the gift bearers were Anne Duffy and Jim McCabe. The sacred music was by Kate Crossan and Noeleen McCabe and the communion reflection was read by Bernie Kearney. Following the ceremony, the bridal party and their families and close on four hundred guests travelled to the Landmark Hotel in Carrick on Shannon where they were treated to a great meal followed by an hour of top class traditional music by Elaine Reilly, Rachel Masterson, Ashling Reynolds and Joe Keane and then Nite Fever entertained all for several hours. We join with the Duffy and McCabe families in wishing Thomas and Carol a long and happy life together.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Brady family, Granard on the death of Anna (Della) Brady which occurred last week. May she rest in peace.
