County Art Final: Congratulations to Lucia Hoysted, Anna Hayden, Sarah Forde, Shaun Donnelly and Daniel Hayden who represented AMG in the Art competition last weekend. Very well done to Anna Hayden who won 3rd place winner in U10 Girls. We wish good luck to Paul Smyth, Saoirse McLoughlin and Bronagh O’ Meara who will represent AMG in the Model Making competition this weekend. Time will be confirmed to parents. The County Sports day takes place in Ballymahon on Saturday 21st and and Sunday 22nd June. Field events on the Saturday commencing at 2pm and Athletics on the Sunday commencing at 11am. Please ensure to be at the venue a half an hour earlier to ensure to be signed in and togged out for your event. We are still looking for volunteers to help out on the day so if there are any parents or students that would like to take a break from the studying then please contact Eamon, Leslie or Paddy. Athletics training for County Sports day in Ballymahon on 22nd continues in the Soccer pitch on Saturday at 5pm. This Sat will be the last training session so a full attendance by all participants would be great. It was an extremely busy week as AMG had six teams competing in the Leinster Community Games rounds. Our Boys Table Tennis, Girls Indoor Soccer, Boys Outdoor Soccer, Girls and Boys Badminton and our U12 Chess teams all travelled to Meath for their matches. Our U13 Boys played their table tennis match against Kilbride and were narrowly defeated in an exciting match. The Kilbride coaches were very impressed at the high calibre of play that AMG players delivered on the night. The match was drawn 3/3 after the singles and went to doubles for the decider. Thanks to Barry Callan for leading the team and organising all the additional training sessions in the lead up to the Leinster match. He feels the team will be a very strong contender next year as all the players will be the right age again for one more try. Our U10 girls Soccer coached by Noelle Gillen and Catriona Hayden team played a tough match against a very experienced Skyrne team and were unfortunate to be beaten. A team to watch for the future though. Our U12 Chess team coached by Martin Smyth played a very strong Ashbourne team but despite some challenging moves the Longford team were unable to defeat the Meath team. The AMG team of Paul Smyth, Ronan Keenan, Nora May Pearman-Howard, Maria Corkey and Eliza Jane Pearman-Howard are also a team to watch going forward. Our U15 Boys Badminton team coached by Kelly Callan played a very strong Ashbourne team which also went to the wire but were narrowly defeated. One of the singles matches and the doubles went to the third game with the Ashbourne players proving the superior team on the day. Our U15 Girls Badminton team coached by Janice O’ Kane were also matched against an Ashbourne team. However the Longford team proved the better on the day and Ardagh Moydow Glen were successful in winning. Our U12 Boys Soccer team coached by Phillip Reilly and Michael Hayden played a fantastic match against a strong and experienced Summerhill side. Ardagh Moydow Glen the winners by 4 goals to 2. A great match to compete with any league competition match with the ref issuing one red card on the day. We would like to extend our appreciation to all of the coaches for their time put in training the teams, the children for their dedication in turning up to all the training sessions and a huge word of thanks to the parents in all competitions who also put in the time in ferrying their kids from one training session to the next and then on to the matches. We also appreciate the support at all of the events with all of the players and parents from the badminton matches travelling on to support the boys at their soccer match. We would like to thank the organiser’s of all the events we played in Meath for the hospitality shown to the parents and the players in providing much needed refreshments after all of the competitions. After the journey and nerve wrecking games it was very much appreciated. We wish the best of luck to the girls badminton and the boys soccer team who now progress to the Leinster finals being held in Longford on the weekend of 28th and 29th of June.
