We extend best wishes to a very special gentleman Mr. Packie Keogh, Aughnacliffe who celebrated his 100th birthday on Monday last September 2nd. Packie is from Aughakine and is been cared for by his daughter and son in law Margo and Sean Campbell and their family and we understand that a great family party was held in Packie’s honour on Sunday last September 1st. Best wishes to local girl, Emma Regan, Ballymorris, Granard as she embarks on her journey on Friday 6th September to Capetown South Africa where she will do voluntary work in The Stellenbosch Orphanage for a period of 17 days. County Longford will commemorate the 1798 rebellion on the weekend of the 6th and 7th September with a variety of events in Granard, Ballinamuck,Ballinalee and Ardagh The events commemorate the Battle of Granard on the 5th September 1798 and the Battle of Ballinamuck on the 8th September. This is the first country wide commemoration of that key episode in Irish and local history. The programme gets underway on Friday 6th September in Granard at 6-30pm.

Ballymore GAA club held their monthly draw in McElvaney’s on Friday night last and the first prize of one thousand euro was won by Colm Farrell while Gerry Healy, Donal Dempsey and Conor, Niall and Orla Macken won one hundred euro. Next draw in Creegan’s at end of September and tickets will be on sale for the new draw immediately afterwards.
