Cemeteries committee

Following a poorly attended Cemetery committee A.G.M. last week, a further meeting will take place on this Wednesday, 18th in the Hill at 8.45pm. The present Committee which has been in existence for over 22 years and has done enormous work have resigned but will facilitate next Wednesday nights meeting. It is essential that a committee be formed in order to submit an application to Longford Community Resources Ltd before February 27th deadline. If this application is not submitted the current scheme to maintain the cemeteries will finish at the end of March 2015.

Community Games

Congratulations to Emmet Murtagh who came 1st and Chloe Hopkins who came 2nd in their respective categories in U-10 County Handwriting competition in the community games recently. Thanks to all the children that took part and to the judges that have now picked the county winner two years running. Best of luck to Emmet in the national finals in august. Very hard luck to our U13 boys Futsal team who played their first round game against Carrickedmond last Thursday evening in Mostrim. It was a bitter disappointment to lose out by a goal in the final few seconds having led the whole game from the start. It was a fantastic performance from start to finish by the whole panel of players and the future looks good as the majority of these lads are under 13 again next year. Team was Luke O’Boyle, Aidan Mulvihill, Dan O’Shea, Joshua Healy, Jack Sweeney, Tony Bermingham, Reece Kenny and Conor Farrell. Table tennis: Our U13 boys’ team play Clonguish in the first round and both U16 boys teams play Kilashee A and B teams. Finals will be played on Friday the 13th of March at 6pm in Ardagh.

Basketball: Our U13 boys’ team play Lanesboro and this game has to be played before 3rd of March. Fixture details will follow. Our U13 girls play the winners of Abbeylara and Carrickedmond. Our 16 boys play the winners of Clonguish and Longford South. Both these games are Semi-final games. Art final is on the 28th of February in St Emer’s national school at 10 am. A text will go out to all involved closer to the date. County U14 Table quiz is now set for Friday the 6th of March in the Park House, Edgeworthstown at 7pm. Best of luck to Mary Skelly and all her team members. Very hard luck to our U15 futsal team at the finals in Kenagh at the weekend. We put up a brave fight but it wasn’t to be in the end. Team on duty was Conor Skelly, Brian Kelly, Chris Steadman, Eoin Mulvihill, Mathew Steadman, David Sweeney and Liam Martin. Mark Brehon absent due to sickness. Training continues as usual for all events. Anyone interested in Talent competition please let Christy Hopkins know on 086 8399057 ASAP.
