The annual Novena to our Blessed Lady continues each Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Church, Granard until Wednesday, 17 December. Credit Union

We now have a new facility EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) system in place so if you request cash before 3pm it can be transferred to your bank account and you can avail of cash the following day. Hours of business Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm. Special Christmas Loans now available up to €2,000 at special rate of 7%.

The SVP shop has relocated to Main Street, Granard in what was formerly Morrissey’s Shop premises. Wonderful new selection of stock with something for everyone. Come along and bag a bargain.

Community Playgroup

Granard Community Playgroup would like to thank everyone who sponsored the Breakfast Morning in Granard Farmers Mart recently. It was a great success and your generosity will have a big impact on our facility.

Fireside Tales

Congratulations to author Jude Flynn who launched the 12th edition of Fireside Tales recently. The book is currently on sale in Donoghue’s Hardware Store, Main Street, Granard. Cost €20 each. There are many items of local interest and this book will make an ideal Christmas gift for family/friends at home or away.

Historical/Heritage Society.

Hall of Fame Award

Congratulations to John Fay, Carragh, Granard who recently received a well deserved Hall of Fame award at the Longford GAA awards night in Abbeyshrule. John has been a stalwart in GAA circles both at Club and county over the years. We wish him many more happy years among his GAA fraternity.

Citizens Information

An information officer from Co. Longford Citizens Information Service will attend Granard Area Action Group Information Office, Main Street, Granard each Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. No appointment necessary.


Bingo continues in the Community Centre, Granard each Wednesday night commencing at 8.45pm. Jackpot is now €18,500 in 42 calls or less. Extra Christmas prizes this week. So come along and be there to win. Proceeds to Abbeylara and St. Mary’s G.A.A. Clubs. Your continued support is much appreciated.

Longford County Choir

Longford County Choir will perform a Christmas Celebration Concert n St. Mel’s Cathedral Centre on Sunday, 21 December at 7pm. Special guests on the night will include St. Christopher’s Choir and the well known local soprano Emer Barry. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to local charities and St. Christopher’s Services. Tickets are €10 and are available at 087-6854876.

The Christmas Craft “Pop Up” shop will be held in Longford Shopping Centre Car Park until 20 December. A great opportunity to get your ideal Christmas Gifts all made in Longford. Your support will be appreciated.

New Baby

Congratulations to Ollie and Tracey (Walsh) Kiernan on the birth of their baby boy Byron recently. A welcome brother for Chloe and Leanne.


Well done to the Abbeylara U-21 team and their management who won the B Championship on Sunday last defeating Longford Slashers by 2-8 to 2-7.

Flower arranging

Granard Garden Club will hold their Christmas flower arranging night on Monday, 15 December at 8pm in Lus na Greine Family Resource Centre. All arrangements made will be raffled on the night and refreshments will be served all are welcome.


Clonfin Commeration committee wish to sincerely thank all who subscribed so generously to their church gate collection in Granard last weekend. The committee are planning a much needed clean up of the monument site in Clonfin and greatly appreciate all the support they receive.

Longford Social Services

Hold their annual collection at Masses on 13 and 14 December. They deliver meals and wheels in our area and provide transport services to and from hospitals clinic and St. Joseph’s Care Centre. To provide these facilities it is necessary for them to hold a collection. Your support will be appreciated.

Country Markets

Patrons of Granard Country Markets are reminded that the last market before Christmas is on Friday, 19 December from 8-30am to 11am. All at the market wish their customers and friends a very happy Christmas and thank them for their support in 2014. The market will reopen on Friday 16 January 2015 and look forward to continued support.

Siopa Lus na Greine

We have a large selection of party dresses, jackets and shoes new in for Christmas, also men’s suits, shirts etc. Beautiful children’s clothes and a huge range of cuddly toys, games and books. We welcome your cast offs, everything accepted. We can arrange to pick up, simply call the Centre at 043-660977. We are open daily between Monday to Saturday from now until 23 December. On Tuesday 16 Mary McEvoy (Biddy from Glenroe) will visit our shop and cut the cake to celebrate our 1st Anniversary, between 11 and 12, so come and join in, meet Mary and have a slice of cake.  We look forward to dressing you for Christmas and helping you with your gift list. All funds raised go directly and totally to projects in the community.
