Congratulations to Dromod on receiving a silver medal in the Entente Florale competition. This was a great achievement so take a bow one and all.


We would like to send our condolences to Padraig and Mary Kerrigan, Cloonturk on the death of Mary’s father, Tom Mullen, Rhyne, Killoe, Co Longford who passed away on Friday last at the Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Longford. Tom was laid to rest in Cullyfad cemetery on Monday last. May he rest in peace.

Progressive 25

Progressive 25 continues in Kilglass Community Centre on Tuesday nights at 8.30pm. We start our winter league on Tuesday 30th September and continue until Tuesday 23rd of December. New players welcome. For further details contact Seamus Nugent 0879309498 or Charlie Reynolds 0871252985.

Bornacoola GAA 125th Anniversary

We’d ask you to note again that our big celebration evening to commemorate the 125th anniversary of our affiliation to the GAA to Saturday, October 18th. The evening will include mass at 7pm in St Michaels at which there will be an opportunity to pray for the deceased members of the club and then there will be a get-together in the Community Centre from 7.30pm at which we will reflect on the club’s long and proud history. There is an open invite to everyone in the parish to come along; refreshments will be served and there will be displays commemorating our proud history as well as a Special 125 edition of our Newsletter, The Club, in which we will chronicle the major events since our foundation. In the meantime we are collecting any old memorabilia related to the club that may be out there and in particular items from the 1970’s, 80’s and the period around the 1940-50’s. Badminton continues at Mohill Sports complex tonight Wednesday and every Wednesday starting at 8pm. Newcomers are always welcome.


We would like to send our condolences to the Dolan families, Furnace on the death of Christy Vaughan, Callen, Co Kilkenny who passed away on Sunday last at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny. Christy will be laid to rest in Kilbride cemetery, Callen today (Wednesday). May he rest in peace.

Set dancing classes start back for the winter in the Welcome Inn, Cornageeha on Tuesday night the 7 October at 9pm. Newcomers very welcome.

Birthday greetings

We would like to send greetings to some locals who celebrated their birthday in recent times, firstly to my dear cousin, Bernadette Mulligan, Currycramp who reached the great age of 90 on Friday last, Bernadette is presently hospitalised at Mullingar General Hospital, we wish you a speedy recovery, next to Bernadette’s grandson, Anthony Mulligan who turned 21 on Sunday last, finally to Tom Reilly, Dromod Station who reached a milestone in his life last week. We wish you health and happiness for the future.
