“Hungry Horse Outside”

Simon Coveney TD Minister for Agriculture visited the County last week and also visited the “Hungry Horse Outside” – Horse Sanctuary in Currygranny, Newtownforbes, managed by Hillary Robinson and Michael Brady. He witnessed first hand the excellent facilities provided at Currygranny for unwanted horses. The enterprise is largely dependent on voluntary contributions and volunteer workers. The Sanctuary covers neighbouring counties as well as Longford. Homes and shelters are constantly required for abandoned or unwanted horses. The Sanctuary at Currygranny also provides vetinary services at a reduced rate for people who experience financial difficulties in keeping their horses. The Minister made a small grant available to the Sanctuary to help with their endeavours. We wish Hillary and Michael continued success with their project in the years ahead.

Joe Fergal Mulleady, son of Martin & Patricia, Melkagh, Drumlish was welcomed into the Faith Family of the Parish in Baptism on Sunday last. Congratulations also to his parents.

Ballinamuck Essert Twinning

Following an exciting, fun-filled and educational exchange in France last year, it is now Ballinamuck’s turn to welcome and host the return visit of their French Twinning Partners in July this year. If you and/or your children would like to be involved in any way please contact the Chairperson Paddy Howe (087-9613312). The group will consist of seven girls and six boys ages between thirteen and seventeen, three eighteen year olds and thirteen adults.

There is already an exciting programme of activities planned including camping in Outdoor Discovery, Ballymahon, trips to Lough Key and Tayto Park as well as games, arts and craft activities all designed to build friendships and shared knowledge of our cultures. There have been approximately twenty exchange visits with participation in French musical events like this year’s Celtic Festival in addition to the yearly exchanges. The young people of Ballinamuck have gained hugely in their social and educational development as a result of these exchanges. The young people have gained in confidence from living with host families, made friends and often gone on to study French at third level. All of this activity is underpinned by very active twinning committees in Essert and Ballinamuck. Committee members fund raise through the local Lotto, bag packing, church gate, pub quizzes etc. If you would like to be involved in any way please contact the Chairperson Paddy Howe (0879613312).
