Loch Gowna



Gowna Development Association AGM will take place on Thursday, March 13th at 9pm in St Brigid’s Community Centre. Everyone welcome.


Deepest sympathy is extended to the Bouchier family’ Arva on the death of their mother, Mrs Margaret Madge Bouchier, (nee Morris), Ardross, Arva which occurred on Tuesday, 25th February at Castlemanor Nursing Home Cavan. Her remains were removed from her residence to the Sacred Heart Church, Arva on Thursday evening and following funeral mass on Friday at 12 noon, burial took place in Coronea cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Mrs Sarah Briody: It was with regret that we learned of the death of Mrs Sarah Briody (nee Lynch), Mill Creek, Virginia, which occurred at Cavan General Hospital on Tuesday, 25th February. Predeceased by her husband, Patrick and daughter, Marion. Sarah was a native of Corfree, Loch Gowna where she lived for many years with her husband and family when they moved from their home in Cortober. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Jim, Kevin and Ronan, daughters, Angela and Martina, daughters-in-law, brother JP, sister Peggy, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces relatives and friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. Her remains were removed from her residence on Thursday morning to Mary Immaculate Church Virginia and following 11am requiem mass burial took place in Holy Family Cemetery, Loch Gowna. May she rest in peace.

Angling club

North Longford Angling Club are holding a pike fishing competition on Lough Gowna on Sunday, 9th March from 11am – 4pm. Due to high water levels entry and start location to be decided . Please contact John Boyle by Friday 7th March for more details on 086 1963986.


Sympathy is extended to William Stephens on the death of his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Stephens, Drumlion, Cavan, wife of the late Richard Brucehall, Arva. Also sympathy to her daughters and extended family. Following funeral service in Kilmore Cathedral, Cavan on Saturday, 22nd February, burial took place in Cathedral parish graveyard. May she rest in peace.

Fishing competition

Lough Gowna/ Upper Erne Anglers will host the John Frank Smyth Memorial Open Pike competition Pike on Sunday, 16th March. More details at a later date.


Sympathy is extended to Padraig Cosgrove, Corlismore on the recent death of his sister Ms Breda Cosgrove, Ongar, Dublin. Also sympathy to her brothers, Hugh, Thomas and John, sisters Marie, Nuala, Cathy and Pauline and extended family circle. May she rest in peace.
