Fashion Show

The committee of St Vincent de Paul Granard will host a Fashion Show on Tuesday, October 22 in the Community Centre Granard. The show will commence at 8pm and it promises to be a fun night for both men and women.

There will be a cheese and wine reception followed by the show itself which will see many young [and not so young] people from the Granard, Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta areas take to the stage. Compere will be Ann McGuinness from Bunbrosna and there will also be a DJ to liven up proceedings. All items modelled will be for sale on the night.

Longford Toastmasters

Would you like to be more confident at speaking in public and to learn how to improve your communication skills? Longford Toastmasters are looking for new members to join our club. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month in The Longford Arms Hotel from 8.20pm until 10.30pm. Our next meeting takes place on October 17. Feis Success

Congratulations to Holly Flynn, Ballymacroley, Granard who won four first places at the Ballymore Feis recently. Well done Holly and we wish you continued success.

New Arrival

Congratulations to Helen and Vincent Walke,r Kilcourcey on the birth of their second child - a girl recently. This young lady is to be named Lauren and she is a welcome sister for Ethan and granddaughter for Ignatius and Anne Walker and Eugene and Mrs Brady, Abbeylara.

County Choir

On Sunday evening November 3 next Longford County Choir will perform a special concert in St Mary’s church in Granard and they will be joined by the Mulligan Sisters and also by many talented youngsters from the local schools in the parish of Granard. Tickets for this concert are now on sale at €10 and all proceeds go to Lus na Greine Family Resource Centre. The concert will start at 7.30pm sharp and tickets are available from committee members or by calling the centre on 043 66 60977.

Collins Night

Micheal Carrigy is organising a night of history on this Friday, October 18 at 8pm in The Greville Arms Granard .The topic for the night is Michael Collins - his life and his links with Longford and Granard in particular. There will be numerous speakers on the night including Gerry O’Connell (Hon Sec of the Collins 22 Society), Michael Doran (lecturer and author), Margot Gearty (niece of Kitty Kiernan) and Michael McDowell (former Minister for Justice and grandson of Eoin McNeill, Chief of staff of the Volunteers during the 1916 rising). There will also be an exhibition of the Kiernan/Collins letters in conjunction with Longford County Library. Admission is €10 which covers refreshments etc. Proceeds from the night go towards maintaining Collins grave in Glasnevin cemetery. Doors open at 7pm. Year of Faith

A Celebration of Faith and Ministry, ordained and lay, and the promotion of vocations, by the Granard Deaneary of Parishes will take place in the deanery church, Saint Mary’s Granard at 7.30pm on Monday, October 21 next, the day after Mission Sunday. The theme of the celebration is that of Mission Sunday, Growing in Faith. A steering group, representative of deanery parishes, are making arrangements for all parishes in the deanery to participate, together with Bishop Colm, and our new Bishop, Francis, and diocesan priests, religious, and lay people, who have shared their faith development expertise with our parishes.

The Quare Land

Bunlahy Area Action Group will host a play The Quare Land in the community centre in Granard on Friday night November 8 and full details will be announced later.Tickets are now on sale from committee members.

Shoe Box Collection

Once again the pupils and teachers of St Patrick’s national school Killeen are taking part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal for children in Romania, Kenya, Moldova and other disadvantaged countries. Items which can be put in the boxes include small clothing,pens,colouring books,skipping ropes, toothbrushes and other hygiene items. The boxes may be left at the school before November 4 and your support will be appreciated.
