Cemetery Sunday

The annual Mass in memory of our loved ones passed away took place Cloonmorris cemetery on Sunday last, Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Gerry O’Brien PP Bornacoola, Fr. Thomas Healey Adm. St. Mel’s, Longford and Fr. Mark Bennett CC St. Mary’s, Athlone, as usual there was a very large attendance who were very generous with their donations for the upkeep of the cemetery.

Wedding bells

We send our congratulations to Mr Patrick Cummins and Miss Lorraine Gallagher who hail fro the Rathoath area of Co Meath who were married on Thursday last in St Joseph’s Church, Cloonturk with their reception afterwards in Lough Rynn Castle. We wish you health and happiness for the future.

Youth 2000 Summer Festival

Youth 2000 Summer Festival, Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, Thursday 15th- Sunday 18th August 2013 for 16 - 35 year olds. The festival includes inspiring talks, music, prayer, concert, workshops, dramas, share groups, reconciliation and healing service and Mass. We would like to send our condolences to Tom and Teresa Moran Aghamore House, Rooskey on the death of Teresa’s aunt May Leavey nee Carberry, Luslum, Ballymahon who died on Saturday last at The Thormond Lodge Nursing Home, Ballymahon, May was laid to rest yesterday in Carrickedmond cemetery. May she Rest in Peace .

Collect Lucozade bottle caps

Collect Lucozade Sport/Lucozade sport and Sport Lite bottle caps to get sports equipment and gear for Bornacoola GAA Club. The more caps we collect the more gear we can get! So start collects the bottle caps and bring them to any committee member or to the club rooms at the pitch in Dromod. The Crusade continues until October 31st.

Wedding Bells

We send our congratulations to Miss Karen McKeon, Anfield and Mr Gearoid McGovern who were married in St Mary’s Church, Annaduff on Saturday last with their reception afterwards in the landmark hotel, Carrick on Shannon We wish you health and happiness for the future.

Bornacoola GAA

On Saturday evening last in the third round of the senior championship Bornacoola lined out to face neighbours Gortlettragh in Park Sean and after a ding dong battle with great scores from both sides Gortlettragh came out on top securing them a place in the quarter finals final score Bornacoola 1.12 Gortlettragh 1.14. This is the first time I saw a senior championship game played with no linesman on one side.


Club draw

The July draw in the Bornacoola gaa club draw took place on Sunday last in the Copper Still Dromod. Thanks to all who supported and to Ronnie for the excellent music. Winners were as follows; €100 Josephine McCartin, Ballygeeher, €20 each Pauline Hanley, Rooskey, Shay Reynolds, Clooncolry , Tanya Beresford, Stephen Beresford, Sean McCauley, Seamus Duignan . Bottle of wine sponsored by Copper still was won by Rachel Duignan.

The Marquee in Drumlish

The Marquee in Drumlish Festival takes place from Aug 16th to 18th 2013: Friday August 16th: Delorentos followed by DJ Fergal Darcy. Saturday August 17th: Declan Nerney & Nathan Carter. Sunday August 18th: Sharon Shannon & Mundy followed by The Aftermath. Tickets available on the door only each night. Buses from Arva and Longford Friday night. There will be a monster bingo session in the Paddy Joe Murphy hall Newtownforbes on Sunday August 11th starting at 3pm with a prize fund of €2500.

 Annaduff GAA

Annaduff beat Allen Gaels by 1-10 to 1-8 in Pairc Sean on Sunday last. This hard earned win gives them a quarter final play off. Allen Gaels started off the better and led by 1-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Kenny Cox then gave Annaduff a lifeline with a well taken goal. Alan Rowley added a point to leave the score at half time Allen Gaels 1-4 to Annaduff’s 1-2. Annaduff had the advantage of the slight wind in the second half and started with four points in succession from Ray Cox, Kenny Cox, Brendan Guckian and Ray Cox again. Allen Gaels replied with a pointed free. Kenny Cox pointed two frees. Allen Gaels brought it back to a two point game with another point. Annaduff got the next two points, a fine effort from Sean McNabola and a Ray Cox point. Allen Gaels got the last two points with Annaduff hanging on for a vital win.

Birthday greetings

We send greetings to some locals celebrating birthdays around this time first is Vinny Reynolds, Curraghan who turned 21 on Wednesday last also to Mr. “Lock Up” Jonny Duffy who had his birthday on Thursday last and finally to newly wed Darragh Gavigan who had his birthday on Monday last. We wish you all health and happiness for the future.
