Give blood: The Blood Transfusion mobile unit team will return again to The Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 29th May 2013 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m and 7.00p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Please note the change of day. Some 3000 units (pints) of blood are needed overall each week to cater for emergency and routine cases requiring transfusions of bloodand blood products in hospitals all over the country. Thanks to everyone who attended the last clinic which was very well attended and please come again to the Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 29th May 2013 and if possible bring a friend.
RehabCare: Ballinamore would like to thank everyone who contributed to make our fundraising event a great success. We would like to thank all our generous sponsors who donated prizes for our raffle, members of the community who contributed cakes and items for the sale of work and all those who attended on the day. The barbeque, cake sale and raffle all proved to be a great success and we greatly appreciate all the support and donations we received from members of the community. We would also like to extend our thanks to all those who sponsored our service Users for their golf links road walk which took place earlier that day. Race night: St Patrick’s N.S. Parents Association, Corlough are holding a Race Night in Feehans on Saturday June 1st at 9pm. Lots of prizes including Best Dressed Lady. All welcome for a fun evening and a flutter on the horses.
All Ireland Autism Table Quiz: Will be held in Jackie’s at 9pm on Friday 31st May. Come along and test your brain cells and enjoy a good night’s craic.
Closing Celebrations: Just over a week to go to the Official Closing Celebrations of Ballinamore Post Primary Schools. On Sunday June 2nd, the schools are hosting an event to mark 62 years of continuous second level education provided by The Sisters of Mercy, The Kilmore Diocese and Leitrim VEC. At the end of this school year, the existing arrangement of common enrolment between Fatima and Felim’s Secondary School and the Vocational School will come to an end and the schools will amalgamate and become Ballinamore Community School. To mark this event, we hope to have a unique school reunion. All past students, parents, teacher and local community are invited to join us in this celebration. We would still welcome old photographs and memorabilia especially from pre 2000 classes which you might have and we can add to our exhibition. Everything submitted will be returned.
Talk: South Leitrim Community Health Forum and Primary Care Team and Co Leitrim Community Forum are organising a Community Walk and Talk event as part of the Green Ribbon initiative. This initiative is part of the Walk and Talk for Positive Mental Health project. This project aims to start the conversation amongst people by promoting “walk and talk” events in schools, workplaces and community settings. The project has been developed in Leitrim by four agencies; Leitrim Development Company, Mental Health Ireland, STOP Suicide and Leitrim Sports Partnership working together to help get the conversation started on changing minds about mental health. Date: Wednesday 29th May 2013. Time: 7.30pm Meeting Point: Outside Supervalu in Ballinamore: the walk is planned along the canal, which should take about an hour. Please come along and join us
Parish Website: It is hoped to have a parish website set up in the near future, , the meeting had a presentation on the type of websites currently in place in parishes throughout the country and on the benefits of having such a site, improved communications within the parish and the area. A subcommittee has been set up to work on bringing this to completion over the next eight to ten weeks.
OPEN WEEK: Lollipop Kids are now taking bookings for September 2013 for children who are 2 years 10 months on 1st September 2013. We are also providing places under the ECCE scheme. If your child is going to school in September 2013 and born between 2/2/09 and 30/6/10 they are entitled to avail of the FREE preschool year. ATHLETIC CLUB: National Community Games Cross Country takes place in Athlone this weekend and a number of our members are involved. Next up are the Connacht Championships in three weeks. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday fromn 7 00 p.m. to 8 00 p.m
Meeting: The last meeting of Ballinamore Women’s group before the summer recess, takes place on Wednesday 5th June at 8.30pm in Trathnona. This is a party night so all members are requested to attend.
Coding for Kids for free: We are setting up a free coding for kids class in Ballinamore. Coding is the way you build websites, computer games and Apps. Coding is very useful for kids and adults alike. CoderDojo is the organisation worldwide who want to teach kids to code for free. All the information is here www.coderdojo.com. There are over 50 coderdojos in Ireland today. We need adults and kids to email us to see if we have enough interest. We intend to have one every Saturday for 1 or 2 hours.
