Death: The death occurred last week of Eileen Duffy, Dromod Post Office (nee Reynolds of Tooman). Her remains were removed to St. Joseph’s Church, Cloonturk on Friday evening with burial taking place in Farnaught cemetery, after her funeral mass on Saturday. Eileen was an honoured guest at the Gortletteragh/Farnaught NS Reunion back in 2009. We tender sympathy with her sisters, Lily and Maura, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
Football Fare: Our senior team put in a credible performance on Saturday evening last in the first round of the senior championship but found St. Mary’s too hard to handle and eventually went down by 1 – 11 to 0 – 9. Gortletteragh had several goal chances but the woodwork and good goalkeeping denied us on a few occasions. They will now have to regroup for their remaining group games against Bornacoola and Aughawillian. The juniors were well beaten by Mohill in their opening championship outing at Ballinamore on Sunday last. Our young goalkeeper, Niall Tiernan gave a man of the match performance, with many point blank saves.
Birth: Congratulations to Helena and Michael Dorrigan, Navan on the birth of their baby son Tom, a welcome brother for Genevieve and Jim. We wish the family many years of health and happiness in their lives.
Field Day: Father Michael Campbell from Clonohill and his hard working parish committee in Abbeylara tell us that they have planned a big Field Day on Sunday June 9th. On the day there will be Tractor pulling and Truck pulling demonstrations. Farm tractors are welcome. There is also a host of other activities like Vintage parade, Midget Car Racing, Dog Show and Donkey Derby. Admission is € 10 with children free. It sounds as though it should be an enjoyable day out.
