On the Vigil of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of the Sick, a Concelebrated Mass with Anointing of the Sick will be held in St Mary’s Church, Legan, followed by dinner, music and dance in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule on Thursday February 10th with proceedings beginning with this Mass in Legan at 5.00pm. All are welcome, most especially Senior Citizens. If Senior Citizens have difficulty in travelling on Thursday, please contact a member of the Pastoral Council who will be more than happy to help out.
The Lourdes Invalid Fund will hold their Church Gate Collection next weekend at Vigil Mass in St Anne’s Church, Ballycloghan on Saturday evening February 12th and at Mass in St Mary’s Church, Legan on Sunday morning 13th February. Proceeds from this collection go towards funding the sending of sick people from each parish to Lourdes on the Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Please support generously.

Biodanza Classes for all ages, male and female, resumed in the Longford Arms Hotel on Thursday 3rd February from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Dance the blues away and re-energise your body, mind and spirit to the sound of soothing music. No partner needed. All are welcome.
Last week’s GAA Lotto draw was held in Casey’s, Carrickboy for a jackpot of 8400 euro. The numbers drawn were 12, 24, 28 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of 35 euro each were M Tierney, B McGonigle and M Rooney. This week’s draw was held in Mitchell’s, Legan for a jackpot of 8450 euro, results of which will be published next week.

There is a new karate class for beginners, aged 5 and upwards every Tuesday being held in the GAA Club House, Legan from 5.30 to 6.30pm. Karate Classes currently take place on Thursday nights. The Junior Class is from 6pm to 7.30pm and adult class from 7.30 to 9.00pm. New members are always welcome. Congratulations to Elizabeth Brady, Killoe, who has been a member of the teaching staff at Ballycloghan National School for some time, on recently being appointed Principal at this local school, replacing former Principal Helen Keenan. Elizabeth is a native of Killoe and an avid sportsperson with a great talent in Ladies Football, having won Ladies Footballer of the Year 2009 at the recent Longford GAA All Star Awards, and she is therefore using this foot-balling talent in Ballycloghan NS by taking over the training and mentoring of the school team. Elizabeth is a niece of Fr Peter Brady, Parish Priest here in the parish of Legan/Ballycloghan. Well done Elizabeth on this great achievement.
Congratulations also to Francis Charles, Keel who has succeeded Jimmy Mitchell as Community Employment Supervisor in the Legan/Carrickedmond area. The peaceful death of Andy Mitchell, Limerick, formerly of Abbeyshrule took place at his home last week. To his immediate family, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. Andy was laid to rest in his native Abbeyshrule on Thursday last. May he Rest in Peace.
