Legan notes

Congratulations to Joseph Cullen and Lisa Greene who were married on Friday last in a beautiful ceremony at Legan Rock outdoor church. Joseph is eldest son of Joan and Frank Cullen, Newport and Lisa is daughter of Jackie Greene, Ferafad and her late father. A reception for family and friends was held in the Middleton Park House, Castletown Geoghegan, Co Westmeath. We wish them many years of good health and happiness together.

Equestrian Success

We wish James Whyte from Legan the best of luck in Cheshire England this week where he is representing the Irish Pony Club in the Senior Show Jumping Championships. Congratulations also to Edel Whyte who had great success at Dublin Horse Show in the RDS recently and also came first in a competition in County Kildare recently.

Inny Anglers

Results of Inny Anglers Lotto draw held on Friday, 21st August in The Hill Carrickboy for a jackpot of €8,000. Numbers drawn were 7, 18, 23 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. Special draw winners of €40 each were Conor Byrne and Mary Halligan. This week’s draw takes place in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Inny Anglers Club extends deepest sympathy to Phil Slowey and her family on the death of her brother, Oliver Brady who passed away in Belturbet, Co Cavan and also to Pascal O’Neill and his family on the death of his brother, Eamon who passed away in England. May they rest in Peace.


Congratulations to James Moran, Cluntymullen and Emer McCabe who announced their engagement recently. We wish them the best of luck in their future life together.

Knock Pilgrimage

The annual Ardagh and Clonmacnoise Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock is on Sunday 6th September. A bus from Legan and Ballycloghan will travel. To book or for further information contact Mary Flood in Legan and Michael Leonard in Ballycloghan. Ceremonies commence at 2.30pm.


Results of GAA Lotto draw held on Monday, 17th August in Mitchell’s for a jackpot of €10,000. Numbers drawn were 2, 13, 24 and 26. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winner of €100 was M Connaughton. This week’s draw took place in Connaughton’s, Rathowen and results will be published next week.


An important meeting of Legan Drama Group takes place on Thursday, 3rd September in the GAA Clubhouse at 8.30pm. All members please attend and new members welcome.


We extend deepest sympathy to the family of Eamon O’Neill, formerly of Kinard who passed away in London last week. Eamon was son of the late Ned and Annie O’Neill, Kinard and he is survived by his family, his brother Pascal and sister Marie still living in Legan. We also extend sympathy to Oliver Charles, Keel and his wife on their recent sad bereavements. May they rest in Peace.

We wish all the students from the area the best of luck as they head off to their chosen third level courses. Also to all students returning to primary and secondary schools after the summer break.
