G.A.A. Qualifiers

Longford are pitted against Carlow for the first round of the qualifiers to be played at Pearse Park on this Saturday, 20 June. Home game should be a big advantage for Longford and we wish them well.

5K Run

St. Patrick’s Killeen Parent’s Association are holding a 5k run/walk/jog fundraiser on this Sunday 21 June at 12.30pm - starting from McElvaney’s Pub, Coolarty. Registration will take place at McElvaney’s from 11am to 12pm.  Cost - €10 per adult; €5 per child (U-16) or €20 per family.  Refreshments will be served afterwards.  Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The guild are having their annual outing on Thursday, 16 July starting off in Athlone with a cruise on the Shannon to Clonmacnoise for a guided tour; return to Athlone for shopping followed by evening meal in Glasson. The Federation meeting will take place in the Chestnut Tree Killashee hosted by Ballymacormack Guild on Tuesday 23 June. Members travelling please meet at Community Centre at 6.30pm. Craft competitions for the meeting are a Craft or Beach Bag in any material. Art: Design and make a necklace. Produce: Lemon Meringue Pie. The Longford heat of the National Brown Bread Baking competition kindly sponsored by Aldi will take place at this meeting – so all members are encouraged to take part.

Siopa Lus na Greine

We welcome all your cast offs , bric-a-brac, toys etc. , these can be dropped into the Lus na Greine Centre Monday to Friday or to An Siopa Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm.  We have a large selection of ladies, gents and children’s clothes, all sizes in stock.  Books on every topic, also lots of toys and games. All monies from An Siopa go to fund projects in our Community.

Rath Mhuire Men’s Social Club

Meeting Dates: Tuesday – 23rd June in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre. The club provides a great space for lots of activities, trips as well as good company and good food. Currently, the group is involved in Woodwork and Basket Making.

Historical Society

The unexpected death of Tom Neilon, Toneywarden, Granard occurred on Monday, 8 June at Mullingar Regional hospital following a brief illness. His body reposed at the family home until removal on Thursday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Granard for 12 noon funeral Mass followed by burial in Granardkille old cemetery. May he rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to his wife Eithne, sons Raymond, Niall, Gary and Alan; daughters Lorna and Elaine; grandchildren, brothers and sisters, daughters in law, sons in law, extended family circle, friends and neighbours.

The death of Patricia Lovett, (nee McNamee) occurred peacefully at Mullingar Regional hospital on Sunday, 14 June following a short illness. Her body reposed at Smyth’s funeral home on Monday evening. Removal took place to St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday morning for 11 o’clock Funeral Mass followed by burial in Granardkill old cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to her sons, daughters, grandchildren, extended family circle and her dear friends in Rath Mhuire Resource Centre.

Adult Badminton

St. Christopher’s Services

Bingo continues each Wednesday night in the Community Centre Granard at 8.45pm. Jackpot is €20K. Proceeds go to Abbeylara and Granard G.A.A. Clubs. Your continued support is much appreciated.


On Sunday, 21 June an afternoon Bingo session will be held in the Community Centre for the Motte Community Enterprise Centre at 3.00pm. A total of €2,500 in prize money. Your support will be appreciated.

Garden Club

Country Market

The market continues every Friday morning in the Motte Enterprise Building, opposite Kearney’s garage from 8.30am to 11.30pm. Hanging baskets and planted containers are now in stock as well as the usual supply of bread, cakes, eggs, cards, crafts, firewood etc.

Moatsider’s Active Retirement Group

Our next meeting will be in this Thursday 18th June at 2.30pm and we will be planning our trip to Knock and other outings for the summer.
