Streete B and C teams were in action this week. Streete B had a home game against Castlepollard at the Streete Complex resulting in the visitors winning by the narrowest of margins .The C team travelled to Ballymore on Wednesday night but were just pipped at the post for the bonus point, despite winning their first two games. On Sunday 18th January, Streete Club in association with Westmeath Bowls held the Westmeath Singles competition for the tenth consecutive year. Over sixty competitors ranging in age from eighteen to eighty turned up for this prestigious contest. After a brilliant afternoon of bowling, the players who made it into the semi-finals were Pat Kelly and Liam Connaughton from Streete and Aaron O’Brien and Seamus Daly from Tyrrellspass. Seamus Daly beat Pat Kelly but Liam Connaughton edged out Aaron O’Brien in a cliffhanger. A thrilling final ensued. The Tyrrellspass man got the better of the Streete player despite a bad start. Both players played brilliant bowls and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the match. Well done to all who took part. New members and visitors are always welcome at the Streete club.

There was a thin skin of ice on the Royal Canal outside Mullingar when the Ramblers walked along the tow path in the bright afternoon sun on Sunday January 18th. The out and back walk took them as far as Bellmount Bridge and back again to Mullingar. In the hope of being thrown some food, the many swans on the water kept a close eye on the people on the tow path. The Ramblers gathered for their snack at the end of their walk in the car park beside the Fire Station. The Ramblers will visit Newcastle Forest on Sunday February 1st. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the bridge in the Forest at 2pm for a 7km walk. Annual subscriptions are now due at the rate of €20 each or €30 for a family. Under 16’s are free of charge. The Ramblers annual general meeting will be held on February 22nd in the Cornmill Pub in Boherquill.
