The duck shooting season got underway on the 1st September last, with most members having a good days shooting as it seems that ducks are plentiful in most areas. The club are continuing to work on its game development for 2014 and it’s hoped to release about 200 pheasants over the next few weeks, and will also set up a number of feeding stations throughout the parish which will be a benefit to all wild birds over the winter months. All members are asked to attend a club general meeting on this Thursday night, September 11th in the Crossroads Inn Lisryan at 9pm.
The Ramblers met in Ballynacargy on Sunday, August 31st for their first walk after their August break. Teresa Cole guided them as they first drove out of the village to Milltown and then she led the way on the five-mile walk back to the village on a loop through Rathmore. On the way they paused at the Hill of Laragh with its panoramic views in all directions, then they moved on downhill, to end their walk with a two-kilometre stretch of the towpath beside the Royal Canal. The afternoon came to a very pleasant end with tea, scones and slices of Bakewell tart in Ballynacarrigy Community Hall, courtesy of Teresa together with Patricia Bruton, so thanks to them both for their efforts.
On Sunday September 14th the Ramblers will visit Tullynally Castle for a walk in the grounds. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the Castle gate on the Castlepollard road at 2pm. The Ramblers website can be found at www.boherquillramblers.ie with news and details of walks, past and future, as well as a gallery of photographs of Club activities.
