Tour de Folly Association with Ballinagh juveniles and Autistic Unit, Ballinagh National School 80k cycle and 7k folly walk on Saturday, 4th April starting at Ballinagh community centre. On the feast of our national apostle, the annual St Patrick’s day parade took place in Ballinagh. In ideal weather and in the presence of approx 2000 people the general opinion being that this years parade was the largest and most successful to date. On the reviewing platform which was courtesy of the management of B & F stores were dignitaries of church and state, Very Rev Peter Casey PP, Cathal Fitzpatrick, Councillor Winston Bennett, Eoin Doyle director of services Cavan County Council, councillor Philip Brady, Wendy Swan, Padraig Brady and Norman O’Lowry who on the day was celebrating a very special birthday with the very popular Dublin road farmer receiving a standing ovation from all present. Mrs Anne McPhillips who as master of ceremonies carried out her duties in an exemplary manner and speaking in Irish and English extended a warm cead mile failte to all present which saw in excess of fifty floats representing local business and sporting organisations take part in the parade led by the Killyfargy pipe band, Scotshouse, Co Monaghan and Mullaghboy Accordion band. Amplification was in the expert hands of Mr Kenneth Lowry with the traffic control once more expertly directed by Ballinagh based Garda Joe O’Connor the former Mayo football star.

Summer time

Summer time officially commences on Sunday next, so clocks and watches are to move forward by one hour before retiring on this Saturday night.

Dublin tourists

A group from the capital city visited the district and were very pleased with “Flemmings Folly’ from which eight counties can be viewed with group leader Mr Joe Gorman – a noted singer and entertainer – remarking that the scenery from the folly was ‘breath taking’ and that the group were already eagerly looking forward to their next visit.

Vintage club

Meeting of Ballinagh and district vintage club in Cronin’s on this Friday night, March 27th at 9pm, all members please attend.

Holy Mass and Devine Mercy devotions in St Michael’s Church, Potahee on Sunday, 12th April at 3pm.

Irish Red Cross

The Ballinagh/Ballintemple branch of the Irish Red Cross is looking for new members and those who may have been past members to come and join us. We will be holding an open information evening on Thursday the 26th of March 2015 at 9pm in the IRC Room, Ballinagh Community Centre. If you have an interest in emergency First Aid, CPR, community service and/or would like to learn these skills, come along on the night.
