Sky TV visits Kilmahon Bee-keeper & Local Library

On Wednesday, June 25 Ireland’s first live web TV channel called Cavan TV came to Drumlish library to film our Knitting and crafts group, and interviewed some local ladies about craft making, knitting and crochet.

Some of the ladies interviewed for this special occasion were Anna Benson, Anna Mai McNamee, and Lillian Walsh – all members of the local ICA. What a lovely experience for all concerned in Drumlish. The filming took place in the local library under the watchful eye of Helen Sheridan our local librarian.

There were some Bog Oak pieces from local artist Brendan Collum on display and many other crafts and paintings from other members of the group, which were also filmed.

The crew then paid a visit to Joe Sullivan from Kilmahon and enjoyed filming him. Joe discussed and shared his bee-keeping expertise, and honey production with the crew who were indeed impressed by his wit, charm and expertise. Well done Drumlish! It was aired on Sky TV 191 on Saturday night last. No doubt it will be shown again sometime.

Longford ICA Craft Fair/Floral Display

Following on from the success of last year’s Craft Fair and Floral Display, Longford ICA have organised another, even bigger event this year with new crafts added, such as jewellery making and basket weaving. The event takes place on Saturday, July 5 in the Temperance Hall, Longford, starting at 10am to 5pm. There will be demonstrations on butter making, quilting, patchwork, knitting and card making. Everyone is welcome to come along and sit in on some of the demos, which will be offered free of charge. Or why not sit and relax with a cup of tea among the floral displays in the Civic Suite? Admission is free. Irish television cameras will be filming and doing interviews. Ladies from ICA boot camp will also attend on the day. This promises to be a great event so put a note in your diary.

Please remove any litter that you see, even if not yours, we are trying to have the place in pristine condition for the adjudicator’s visit, so everyone can play a part. The group will meet on Saturdays at 9am. We are delighted to announce that the village streets will be name plated before the Autumn - and this is being part funded by Longford County Council.

Calvary Cross

Now that the new extension to the Cemetery has been completed, wouldn’t it be nice to have a special Cross reflecting Calvary and the hope of resurrection there. If there is any parishioner or family who would like to donate or finance a Calvary Cross and scene to complete the beautiful work done. The cost of such would be something similar to the cost of erecting a headstone. It’s a big ask in difficult financial times, but it’s a worthwhile investment. Thank you.
