Death of Fr. Sean Tynan
The death occured on Thursday last of Reverend Father Sean Tynan at the General Hospital, Mullingar. Fr. Sean was born in Breaney in 1939, he attended school in Legan National School, St. Mel’s College and St. Patrick’s Seminary, Maynooth where he was ordained in 1965 for the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. He served in many different parishes and was parish priest of Kilsonan and Killewummery Co. Leitrim prior to his premature retirement. He was deeply involved in developing the Interpretive Centre in Arigna and the revival of the walkway to the mines. He was also involved in Tidy Towns when Keadue won the All-Ireland award. He will be fondly remembered by his Parisioens, other priests in the diocese and especially by his brothers:Henry, Eamon, Andy and sister Kathleen, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. His removal from Laurel Lodge nursing home to the church of tne nativity of Our Lady, Keadue took place on Friday evening and intermet following Concelebrated Requiem Mass in church grounds on Saturday. May he rest in peace.
Lourdes Invalid Fund
The Annual Diocesan Lourdes Invalid Collection takes place at masses in County Longford this week and Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February. In Legan and Ballycloghan a second collection after Holy Communion will be taken up. All money collected goes towards helping sick people in the parish to go on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes from 27th May to 1st June. Please support generously.
Results of Inny Anglers lotto – draw held in Slowey’s for a jackpot of 4,100 euro. Numbers drawn were 2, 11, 16 and 20. There was no jackpot winners. Special draw winners of 40 euro each were Pete Donnelly and Cian Gilcheist. This weeks draw takes place in The Hill, Carrickboy. Tickets now on sale.
The death following a tragic road accident occurred of Lisa Cullen, Lisduff, Ardagh on Wednesday evening last. Lisa, who was only in her twenties, will be sadly missed by her dancing pupils in Legan and surrounding area whom she taught weekly in the Ausosa Hall, Legan. We extend sincere sympathy to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
Results of GAA lotto draw held on Monday night, February 10th in Mitchell’s. Numbers drawn were 12, 13, 26 and 29. There was no jackpot winners. Match three winners were 50 euros each were Rose Burke and Willie Keenan. This weeks draw took place in Connaughton’s, Rathowen for a jackpot of 8,700 euros and results next week.
Our Drama group is busy putting the final touches to their productions of the John B Keane play Big Maggie. Dates have been set for casting, Friday 21st Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March. Condolences to John Brady, Ardandsa, on the death of his brother Philip who passed away in America recently. Philip emigrated to the States in the 1950s where he lived for the rest of his life. We also extend sympathy to David and John Burns, and their families, Richmond, on the death of their mother, Dorothy who passed away on Saturday last. Following service in St. Johns church on Sunday, her remains were donated for medical research. Sympathy is extended also to Gillian Campbell, Tully on the death of her uncle, William Clemdeming. May they rest in peace.
