The committee would like to thank everyone who came and supported our Field Day on Sunday last 8 June. Abbeylara Gun Club held their annual Clay Pigeon on Sunday, 4 May in the shooting grounds, Derragh, Abbeylara. The winner of the High Gun Lite Pac Perpetual Cup and prize money of €200 was Richard Rawe, Cavan. Down the Line winners were; 1st €80 David McGloughray, Cavan, 2nd €60 Kevin Gannon, Legan and 3rd €40 Peter Newman, Kenagh. High Pheasant winners were; 1st €80 Caspers J, Mullingar, 2nd €60 David McGloughray, Cavan and 3rd €40 Garry Walsh, Westmeath. FETAC Level 5
Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard are currently enrolling for FETAC Level 5 Courses in Sports and Recreation, Childcare, Nursing Studies, Agriculture Business, Information Technology and Animal Care. These FETAC Level 5 Courses are suitable for both school leavers and mature students who wish to return to education and gain new skills or employment. Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament for Exam People will take place each Thursday during June in Carra Church with Holy Mass at 7.30pm followed by Adoration from 8.00 to 8.30 pm, and each Friday during June in Abbeylara Church from 3.00 to 4.00 pm.
St. Bernard’s N.S, Abbeylara is having a Clothes collection on Thursday, 19 June. Any unwanted Men’s, Women’s and Children’s clothing, Shoes, Belts, Handbags, Ties, Linens, Household Textiles, Stuffed toys etc., (Mobile phones placed in a separate bag). Takes place every Wednesday night at 8.45pm in the Community Centre, Granard. Proceeds go towards St. Mary’s Granard and Abbeylara GAA Clubs. Jackpot is now €16,100. Seats are limited with this big Jackpot so come along early.

Shave, Wax and Dye takes place in John V’s, Granard on Saturday, 5 July at 8.30pm in aid of Diabetes Ireland. There will be music on the night by Pat Masterson. A tractor run will take place on Sunday, 6 July, leaving Granard Mart at 2.00pm. The Route is as follows; Granard – Castlepollard – Finea – Granard. Abbeylara Tidy Towns are holding their next meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 19 June in Sports Centre at 8.30pm. As judging is now underway, we urge everyone to be on the lookout for litter and try to keep our village tidy and looking its best. Only you the local residents can do their best and be proud of yourselves when the marks come out in early September.
The first draw for 2014/2015 takes place on Friday, 20 June in Crawford’s. All people selling the €100 Lotto tickets please return your tickets and money no later than Wednesday, 18 June. Sold Lotto envelopes can be returned as usual at the draw. The draw for the 5 x €100 prizes for fully paid up Lotto members will also take place. The Club person of the year will receive the Perpetual Plaque in memory of Jackie Kiernan, Dalystown. Music and refreshments at this function.

We would always welcome new passengers on board the services; it is open to all age groups, with FTP holders travelling free. For our local region of Granard/Abbeylara, there are 2 Friday services into Granard = via Robinstown – Abbeylara – Creevy/Cloughernal and in the afternoon = via Derragh – Killasonna – Lisryan to Granard. Granard Celtic F.C is holding a 5K Fun/Run/Walk/Jog fundraiser on Saturday, 21 June. Registration takes place at the Community Centre, Barrack Street, Granard from 10.30am to 11.30am. Pitch and Putt
Competitions continue on Wednesday evenings for all members at Granard Pitch & Putt – adults and juveniles and new beginners at 7pm. Rosie Run in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (Imnda) will take place in Loch Gowna on Sunday, 20 July at 1pm. Registration begins at 11.00am. Prizes to be won and refreshments will be provided in the hall afterwards. Please support this worthy cause.
