Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon notes

School mass

School mass

Our annual school mass, which marks the beginning of a new school year, took place last Monday, September 23. Big thanks to Ms Malone and her fabulous group of musicians and singers. Also the school would like to thank the Religion Department and Fr Padraig, our school chaplain

Mercy day

We wish all our Sisters of Mercy a very happy Mercy Day on September 24. We appreciate their huge input into the local community over the years.

First years

An information night for parents of first years was held in the school last Thursday, September 19. Thanks to all the parents who attended and to Ms O Neill, Mr Walsh and Ms Donohue for their presentations. This was also a wonderful occasion for parents to meet each other and share experiences of their children who have joined the school in first year.

Congratulations to Sinead O’Neill who was one of two people selected from Longford to play at half time at the All – Ireland football final last Sunday. You go Sinead!

TYs received their first talk of the year last Wednesday when they were visited by James O’Reilly from the County Enterprise Board. James was speaking to TYs about their mini companies which they will be setting up later on in the year. Well done to TY student Patrick Flanagan who competed at the UK school games last weekend. He and the rest of the Irish team were placed sixth overall. Well done Patrick!

Creative Writing

A creative writing group will be held in school at lunch time on Wednesday for any students who are interested. Thanks to Mr O’Gara for making the group happen. This group will greatly help students with their English, so go along! For all we know you are the next WB Yeats!

Student Council

There was huge excitement last Friday as the Student Council representatives were elected by their fellow classmates. Many thanks to Ms Mulligan and congratulations to everyone who was elected. We hope you will all do yet another fantastic job this year.

Coffee Morning

The staff here in Mercy Ballymahon held a very successful coffee morning in aid of our local hospice as part of the National Campaign. Banter and biscuits were had for a good cause. Thanks to Pakie, Sandra and Linda, staff of Get Fresh Catering who run our canteen, for donating the scones and cakes.
