Granard ICA guild will hold their monthly meeting on this Thursday 5 December at 8.00pm in the Credit Union meeting room. The committee will host the Christmas Supper. All members are requested to attend and new ones very welcome. Members are reminded to bring a lucky dip prize under €5 to the meeting. Please remember also to Support Mental Health Services for Young Adults by Wearing Funky or Mismatched Shoes and donating €2 to the cause! Congratulations to the members who took part and were placed third in the Federation Cookery Cup Competition in Longford last week.

Craft Fare

On Saturday 7 December the Longford Federation ICA Christmas Craft Fair takes place in the Temperance Hall Longford from 10.00am to 4.00 p.m.  There will be an opportunity to get that unique Christmas present, jewelry, bags, cakes, jams, chutneys, quilts, knitted garments or Christmas decorations from one of our many talented Longford Crafters. Homemade handmade goods of all descriptions will be on offer. Visit Santa in his very own handmade prizewinning Suit at his Grotto from 12 pm to 2 p.m.  Sit in on one of our demonstrations on the day: Christmas Decorations 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Christmas Flower Arranging demo from 1 to 2 p.m. Cake Icing Demonstration from 2 to 3 p.m. Listen to the Carol singers around 2p.m. or enjoy a cup of tea and mince pies in the Cafe.  There is something for everyone so come along and visit us there.  

Country Market

Granard Country Markets are celebrating their 35th Birthday on this Friday 6 December and to mark the occasion they are having a free raffle for all customers. The market is now taking orders for Christmas cakes, puddings cards, gifts etc. and the market is  open in it’s new home beside the Post Office every Friday from 8-30am to 11-00 am.

Christmas Market

As part of our Community Festive Celebrations and Gathering 2013 the Christmas Lights Committee are hosting a Christmas Market on this coming Sunday 8 December on Upper Main Street Granard. All surrounding local businesses are invited to come together in these challenging times to promote their seasonal wares in traditional market style. The Christmas Market is being incorporated with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the town. There will be the unique live crib and stationary crib also. Local Carol singers will provide entertainment and Santa will arrive at Lus na Greine FRC to kick off the festive celebrations. Granard Area Action Group would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported their annual fundraising event (Table Quiz) in Fay’s Bar on Friday 22 November. To all who donated gifts and prizes for the raffle and to those who were unable to be present and sent contributions / donations. Thanks to Christine Lee who was Quiz Mistress on the night and did an excellent job. Congratulations to the winning team Miriam, Noel, Patrick and Gerry who kindly donated their winnings back to the group and the runners up captained by David Reynolds Bunlahy who also kindly donated their winnings. Christmas Draw.

Ballymore Ladies GAA club are holding their annual Christmas Fundraising Draw on this Saturday 7 December in McElvaney’s Lounge Coolarty. In conjunction we will host an Irish Music Night for the Clubs Christmas Celebration. All are welcome so come along and enjoy a great night’s entertainment.

Football Success

Congratulations to Mullinalaghta Senior footballers who won the Leader Cup competition on Sunday last in Glennon Bros. Pearse Park Longford by defeating current Co. Champions Longford Slashers on a scoreline of 1.09 to 11pts. The last time the club won this competition was in 1951. Well done to all concerned.

Country Markets

On this Friday 6 December the Market is celebrating 35 years in business

Patrons of the Country Markets in Granard are asked to take note that the market now takes place in the premises between the Post Office and Kiernan’s Butchers. The market starts at 8.30am and continues until 11.00 am. We look forward to your continued support.

Rath Mhuire & Dolmen Services

Sale of Work - Reminder that our Sale of Work is on this Friday 6 December in the Community Centre starting at 9.00am. There will be a large range of items for sale and we already have collected many new and unused quality products, so this would be the ideal opportunity to get that present for a great price. Items include toys, homeware, clothes, books, gift sets and much more. All proceeds from the sale will go to Rath Mhuire & Dolmen Services who support Moatsider’s Active Age Group, Granard Men’s Social Club, Dolmen Active Age, Dolmen Daycare Services, North Longford Men’s Group and other community projects. Men’s Social Club

The group meets every second Tuesday in Rath Mhuire Centre. The group is growing all the time and is a great social outlet with lots of good fun and activities and we welcome our recent new members and look forward to many more joining us. Local History Group
