Nativity Play

Pupils from St Sinneach’s School in Colehill will present a Nativity Play and Carol Service in the Secret Hearth Church Carrickedmond on Monday evening the 16th December at 7:30pm. This production by the pupils from the local school promises to be an enjoyable and joyous parish event suitable for all. Everyone is invited to attend this Christmas production.

Folk Group Rehearsals continue in Carrickedmond church on Wednesday nights from 8pm to 9pm. Next folk mass will take place in Carrickedmond on Christmas day the 25th December. New members always welcome.

GAA AGM: Will take place in the GAA complex Carrickedmond on Saturday night the 11th January 2014 at 8pm.

Christmas Confessions A penance service with individual confessions will take place in the Secret Hearth Church Carrickedmond on Tuesday night the 17th December at 7:30pm. There will be visiting priests on the night. Everyone is welcome.

Christmas Craft Fair

The Abbeyshrule annual Christmas Craft fair will take place on Sunday, 15th December from 12 noon -6pm in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. There will be over twenty art and craft and food stalls and lots of special Christmas gifts on sale. Also from 2pm - 4pm there will be a free children’s craft workshop. Festive food and music all day and a special appearance by Santa and Mrs Claus at 4pm. Raffle in aid of MWB Autism Support. A Christmas carol will be presented by pupils from Ballymahon VS in the school assembly hall this week on the 4th 5th and 6th December. Pupils from the local area attending the school are among the cast members. Tickets are still available and cost €10 each. The Carrickedmond pastoral council group will hold their next meeting in the parish house on Monday night next the 9th December at 8pm. All members are requested to attend.

Charity Match

A reminder to all present and past footballers from the parish that the St Stephens Day annual charity football match in aid of St Christopher’s Centre, Longford is fast approaching. This game will take place in the Michael Moran Park on St Stephens’s day the 26th December commencing at 2pm. For more information contact Maraide Mc Donnell.

Christmas Cards

From the parish with front cover pictures of Carrickedmond and Abbeyshrule churches are now on sale and can be got from Fr Tiernan PP. The cards only cost 60cent each and would be a nice Christmas remembrance of the parish for family members away.

Defibrillator Group Recertification is now due for a number of people from the area. In the coming weeks all concerned will be notified by text of up-coming training nights. If there are people from the area who have not yet trained on the use of a defibrillator and are interested in training please contact Seamus McGuire (086-8286748), Anthony Green (086-3993933) or Kathryn Keenan (086-8226894) to book a place on up-coming classes.

Dinner Dance The Carrickedmond GAA annual dinner dance will take place in the Rustic-Inn Abbeyshrule on Saturday night, the 18th January 2014.Tickets are now on sale and cost €25. Music on the night will be supplied by the “Dance on Band”. To purchase tickets please contact any of the following. Sympathy Is extended to the Farrell family, Currabawn on the death last week of Frank Farrell, following an illness. Frank was a well known member of our community who worked up until his retirement as a lorry driver with Longford County council. Frank also worked hard on the family farm and was a popular member of the farming community. Frank will be now sadly missed by all who knew him but will be especially missed by his loving wife Nelly, sons Cyril, Oliver, Enda and David, daughter Irene, sisters Helena and Josie other relatives and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathies. Frank’s remains were removed from the Laurel Lodge nursing home Longford to Carrickedmond church and his burial took place to Carrickedmond cemetery on Friday last. May he rest in peace.
