Wedding bells

Both families enjoyed a beautiful meal in Viewmount House. Later that evening friends and neighbours joined them in the rugby club where everybody danced the night away. Tickets for the Episcopal ordination of Father Francis Duffy on Sunday October 6 in Saint Marys Athlone. The Diocesan secretary Father Tom Murray sent a letter two weeks ago saying that 4 tickets were being made available to this parish. The parish pastoral council decided at its meeting on Wednesday September 11 that those who would like to be there (and know they will be able to be there) be asked to put their names with phone numbers in a box in the sanctuary at last weekend’s masses, the names to be drawn after the 11am mass in Holy Trinity Church at which the members of the pastoral council would be present. The names drawn were Anna McGrath and Michael Fitzgerald, Saint James; Maureen Bracken and Rowena Rawle Holy Trinity.


Longford Parish cells of evangelisation are holding this national seminar on October 4, 5, 6 and 7 next in Saint Mel’s Cathedral Centre, Longford and Saint Olivers Church Cullyfad Killoe. Year of faith

October 11, 2012 – November 24, 2013. (50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council – Solemnity of Christ the King). A celebration of faith and Ministry ordained and lay and the promotion of vocations by the Granard Deanery of parishes will take place in the Deanery church Saint Marys Granard at 7.30pm on Monday October 21 next, the day after Mission Sunday. The theme of the celebration is that of Mission Sunday, growing in faith. Arrangements are being made for all the parishes in the deanery to participate together with Bishop Colm and our new Bishop Francis and the priests religious and lay people who have shared their faith development expertise with our parishes. The church celebration will be followed by a fellowship of refreshments and an impromptu of music, song and dance in the Community Centre, Granard. In the meantime mark your diary for what promises to be a wonderful evening. During this week the chairperson , secretary and members of the parish pastoral council will be in touch with the various spiritual and community organisations in the parish re representatives for the entrance procession of the mass, the names to be taken to a steering committee meeting in the community centre,Granard on Monday September 30.

Open Day

The Restoration of Saint Mel’s Cathedral is progressing very well. An open day will be held on Sunday October 29 next when you are welcome to come and view the progress for yourselves. The Cathedral will open from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and this event is free of charge.
