Today, January 31, marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Ann Lovett in Granard. The fifteen-year-old student gave birth in secret to a son at the grotto in Granard. The baby was stillborn. Ann Lovett was found some time later by local children returning home from school. She died soon afterwards.

Ann Lovett was found some time later by local children returning home from school. She died soon afterwards.

The events surrounding Ann Lovett’s death shocked and saddened the nation and there was considerable debate about the tragedy.

For the people of Granard, the death of Ann Lovett and baby son remains a deeply sad and personal story about the loss of a daughter, sister, neighbour, friend and her baby.
