Irish Dancing success
The CRN Connaught Irish Dancing Championships were held recently over a three day period in the Radisson Hotel, Sligo. Over four hundred dancers competed daily, with places at the All Ireland Championship up for grabs! A 65 strong team from the McCartin SD competed and recorded phenomenal success at the even, winning in excess of two hundred and fifty medals in solo competition. A further ten Céilí teams qualified for All Ireland Championships. Drumreilly Active Age members held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday January 22nd.in the Community Centre. The meeting opened with the reading of the Group’s Constitution by Secretary Frances O Reilly.
Tess Gallogly the outgoing Chairperson welcomed those present and reported on a successful year of socials, outings and sadly the deaths of members Paddy Connolly and Liam McGirl. Following the reading of the Minutes of the 2013 A.G.M. the Secretary gave a wide- ranging account of the activities of a busy 2013. Treasurer Riny Jannink presented a well-researched account of the Group’s finances. The officers elected for 2014 are as follows: Chairperson: Pat Conefrey; Vice-Chairperson: Riny Jannink; Secretary: Frances O Reilly; Assistant Secretary: Rose Conefrey; Treasurer: Ciaran Holahan; Assistant Treasurer: Riny Jannink; P.R.Os: Christy O Reilly and Pat Conefrey. The night’s business concluded with a discussion on the following:
Membership, Insurance, The Senior Citizens Parliament, the Group’s Written Account for the Leitrim Age Friendly Older Peoples Council, disbursement of the profits accruing from the sale of Christmas Wreaths, H.S.E. Grant Application, a proposed outing to Co. Cork and the Valentine’s Social on Tuesday February 11th. Nineteen members enjoyed their bowling session in Ck on Shannon on Thursday night. After stiff competition Christy Reilly, Bridie Mulligan and Chrissie Gaffney were overall winners on the night.

There was joy for Michael and Síle McCabe with the new arrival of their baby daughter. The following officers were elected at the A.G.M. of Drumreilly G.A.A. Having scored a total of one goal and twenty five points in the 1998 Championship and two goals and sixty four points in ten League games Ollie Maguire was winner of the Intermediate Player of the Year Award. John McKeon, a star member of the Leitrim Minor team which brought a forty two years Connacht Championship famine to an end, was presented with his medal.
