Death of Padraig Halton

It was with deep regret that we learnt of the death of Padraig Halton Lagore Cross Ratoath, Co Meath and formerly of the Rocks Loch Gowna which occurred peacefully at his home on Friday 30th August following an illness which he bore with great courage and dignity. Padraig was a friendly and generous person. He went to Haiti yearly to help the poor. He had a great interest in all sport. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and especially by his loving wife Margaret , daughters Caroline,Pamela and Louise , mother Rose Ann, sisters Rose , Jodie and Mary, brother Seamus, aunts, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews relatives and friends to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. His remains were removed from his residence on Sunday to Holy Trinity Church Ratoath and following 1.30pm mass burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.

A Gowna bursary

A Gowna bursary to support Gowna Community members undertaking a 3rd level course is being provided by Gowna Community Association. Six bursaries at 500 euro each. A draw will determine the six successful applicants. Criteria residents in Gowna hinterland undertaking 3rd level course , letter from College confirming acceptance before Bursary paid. Application letter sought with name address mobile and 3rd level course to Gerry Fitzpatrick, Drumbrista House Loch Gowna Co Cavan. The draw will take place on Friday 20th September. Whist game

Whist game will resume on Wednesday 25th September in St Brigids Community Centre Loch Gowna at 8.30pm sharp. Everyone welcome.

Angling festival

Loch Gowna Angling Festival was held on the shores of Loch Gowna and surrounding lakes from Monday 26th August to Friday 30th August. 75 anglers fished this competition sponsored by Timmy Fitzpatrick (Fitzpatrick tavern). A substantial amount of fish was caught and released. Following are the first ten prize winners of the week. Derek Buckley 101.850kg; Tony Hopkins 96.720kg; Lee Klimczue 93.020kg; N Parkinson 85.910 kg; John Jowett 76.000kg; Neil Mallinson 74.130kg; Jan Zekfeld 71.220kg; Andy Leathers 70.880kg; Tony Kersley 70.730k; Neil Mazurek 69.950k. Thanks to Nigel Houldsworth and other members of the angling club for their help in making this event an enjoyable one for all the anglers who attended.

5K/10K run/walk

Colmcille GFC 5K/10K run/walk on Saturday September 21st at 3pm. Registration from 1pm at the Cross or on runireland.com. Social dance classes

Social dance classes will commence on Tuesday 17th September in the Pikers Lodge Hotel. Dancing from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Learn to waltz, jive, quickstep and foxtrot. No partners needed. Just turn up on the night. Great craic and exercise 10 euro for 2 hours. Instructor Eamonn Cunniss five times All Ireland champion. For more information contact Eamonn on 085 8012187.

Baby girl

Congratulations to Fidelma and Paul Galligan, Cavan on the recent birth of their baby girl. A welcome grand-daughter for Brian and Kathleen Brady, Corfree, Loch Gowna and Kevin and Kitty Galligan, Ballinagh. We wish you health and happiness in the years ahead.

Wedding bells

Congratulations to John Richardson, Drumbriskan, Loch Gowna and Kate Rutherford, Craigavon, Belfast who were married on Friday, 2nd August at Castle Arch Hotel, Trim. To celebrate the occasion, a very enjoyable reception was held in the Hotel. We wish John and Kate health and happiness in their married life together.

Kettle bells

Kettle bell classes will resume this week 9th September. Mondays & Wednesdays 9.30am & 8pm in Granard sports complex, Tuesdays & Thursdays 8pm & 9.15pm in Loch Gowna Community Centre. 5 euro per class or 35 euro for 8 classes. New members are always very welcome and you can join in at any time if that date doesn’t suit.
