Tidy Town’s: continue to meet at 9.30 on Saturdays mornings opposite PO – and thanks to all who supported so well our Table Quiz at Gallagher’s last Monday – Aiden and Matthew Gray were on the winning team and Seamus Gallagher’s team were the runners up – the winners very generously returned the Prize money to the cause. A major clean up of the Arva Road from the Father Manning Gael’s Clubhouse as far as the old civic dump is planned for Saturday 27th April from 9.30a.m Anyone who can lend a hand for a couple of hours is asked to do their bit for their local environment please. Environmental Awareness Day: – Saturday 27th April is a date for your diary at 10.00 am, Drumlish Tidy Town’s will have Environmental Education Officer, Nuala Madigan from the Irish Peatlands Conservation Council, join us for the morning to deliver a workshop introducing biodiversity including habitats of Ireland their flora and fauna as well as managing and enhancing biodiversity. This will be followed by a walk around the area with the group to begin a biodiversity survey. Each participant will be given guidelines on how to do and prepare a biodiversity report for the community. There is no charge and there will be much of educational value and we invite anyone who has an interest in ecology, environment to pencil in this date... and bring your children it is an opportunity not to be missed and that may not be repeated for a very long time. This is open to neighbouring parishes as well.
Interested in Gardening?: An information evening on Gardening with Laura Shaw from Longford Garden Centre and with Gary Brady, Environmental Officer with Longford County Council, on Food Wastage is being held in the ‘98Hall Ballinamuck on this Thursday 18th April at 7.30pm. The event is being hosted by Longford Federation ICA. Tea & Refreshments will be served. A Raffle will be held. Admission €5. Everyone welcome to come along.
Community Games: Annual Sports Day will take place in Monaduff on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May at 2pm. Volunteers are needed to help out on the day and should contact any committee member.
Ballinamuck Enhancement: A meeting will be held this Wednesday 17th April in the ’98 Hall at 8.00pm There will be an update on the planned playground and details of our 2013 Tidy Towns entry. If possible, we would like to see representatives from both of the housing estates, along with as many homeowners along the route from Gaigue Cross to the ‘98 Bar and the Village itself. Everyone is welcome.

Cairn Hill Challenge: As part of the Community Centre 25th Anniversary Celebrations and Gathering events on the May bank Holiday weekend Gaels Utd FC are hosting a 10k and 10mile road race on Sunday May 5th. The course will take participants from Drumlish Village by Derawley and Kilmahon with the shorter course going in front of Cairn Hill while the 10mile couse will proceed by the back of Cairn Hill. Both races then re enter Drumlish to the finish This event is open to all runners, joggers and walkers and will be chip timed. There will be a fun run for children on the day over a shorter course. So why not make it a family day out and support the young people of our area. Entry Fee is 15 euro and Registration can be done on line by finding “Precision Timing Website” and then find Cairn Hill Challenge on their calendar.
