Double Medal Presentation: Gortletteragh Gaels had a marvellous night at their Dinner Dance in Cox’s of Dromod on Saturday night last.

It was a very successful year for the club which was evident from the vast array of silverware which was on display on the night. The victorious Intermediate team, who completed the league and championship double, were presented with their medals by club chairman, Sean Reynolds. This year there were two additional awards. Cathal McCrann received the intermediate club player of the year from Miki and Helena Dorrigan, the awards being in memory of their son, Stephen, a Gortletteragh clubman who passed away in the prime of his life. The junior club player of the year award in memory of another Gortletteragh player, Michael Cunningham, who also sadly passed away, was presented by Michael’s wife Emer to the winner, Simon Egan. We congratulate all the winners, to the officers of the club and the team managements on their success this year.

Calendar Launch: The Drumgowna School reunion committee wish to return thanks to all who supported their calendar launch in Fox’s on Saturday Nov. 24th, to all who bought calendars and those who bought lines in the “Guess the weight of Packy Tom” game. Thanks to Jimmy and Kathleen for giving us the run of their premises and for their generous contribution to the school reunion fund. Thanks to those who supplied the beautiful refreshments. Praise and thanks is due to Sean Reynolds, Drumhirk, printer, and all the people who supplied photographs for the calendar – it’s already en-route to far-away places. Thanks to the ladies who sold calendars and the “Guess the weight” lines. Thanks to Jacinta of C & D, Mohill, Reilly Concrete, Drumhass and Mary Geelan, Aughamore, who donated the raffle prizes. If you’re buying a Christmas wreath, go no further than Mary Geelan for quality and value. We had a surprise appearance of Barack Obama, aka Derek Kelleher. Well done Derek, your act went down a treat! We know there was little vision and humidity! Jack and Betty Reynolds, Cloncowley, gave an enjoyable exhibition of Jack’s version of sean nos dancing and as for Micheal Mc Garry; his stage performance is improving with the years! Packy Tom isn’t stage shy either; everyone had a chance to size him up. He’s enjoying the limelight and is resisting all pleads for clues and cagey interviews! It’s great getting so many photos for the book, keep them coming in. The cost of sponsoring a page is €50. Calendars can be purchased locally in Fox’s and The Welcome Inn, Gala and Baxter’s Centra in Mohill or from any committee member.

Senior Citizens’ Party: The annual senior citizen’s party takes place this Sunday at 3pm in Fox’s lounge. Please come along early and be comfortably seated before the meal is served. A great evening’s dining and entertainment is in store.

Gortletteragh N.S.: The Board of Management and staff of Gortletteragh N.S. would like to acknowledge the support received by them at their recent fundraising event in Fox’s of Tooman. Thank you to all the sponsors of the prizes, to all who bought and sold tickets and gave donations to the school fund. We hope the prizewinners will enjoy their good luck. Particular thanks to those who came to support on the night and bought raffle tickets, also thanks to the ticket sellers. Special thanks to all who gave spot prizes and to Jimmy and Kathleen for the use of their premises, their kind donation and providing refreshments which was enjoyed by all.

Autumn Club: There will be a meeting of the Autumn Club on tomorrow night, Thursday, at 8pm.

Leitrim Sports Star Award Winner: Congratulations to Cathal McCrann on being chosen as ‘Sports Individual Senior’ winner at the Leitrim Sports Star Awards in the Landmark Hotel on Saturday night last. Cathal is a worthy winner of the award as he had a marvellous year on the field of play with Leitrim and the Gortletteragh club in 2012. It is a great honour for Cathal, his family and the Gortletteragh club and we wish him continued success in 2013.

Club Player of 2012: Gortletteragh wasn’t short of award winners last week. Darren Duignan was another club player to be honoured on Saturday last as he was chosen Leitrim Intermediate club player for 2012. He had a marvellous year helping Gortletteragh win the league and championship double with some great performances. We congratulate Darren, his family and the club on being honoured with this award and wish him well again next year on the playing fields.

Death: We offer our sympathy to Tommy McGarty, Breanross South on the death of his aunt Margaret Keenan-Torpie, formerly of Breanross South who has died in England. May she rest in peace.

Leitrim Guardian: The Leitrim Guardian was launched at a function in the Kilbracken Arms in Carrigallen on Friday last. As usual it is a good read and is for sale in Fox’s and all the other usual outlets.

Mohill SVP Christmas Appeal: December 8th & 9th - In 2012, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has spent over €60 million to fund its services for families in need in Ireland and expects to answer 150,000 calls for assistance coming up to Christmas. Almost 50% of calls to SVP are for assistance with basics such as food and fuel. Here in Mohill and the surrounding parishes, we have spent over €15,000 this year helping families with fuel, grocery, clothing and education expenses. Christmas, with its extra financial burdens, can be a very stressful time for many families in difficult circumstances. This is particularly so since the removal of the Christmas bonus for Social Welfare recipients. This Christmas we hope to provide assistance to over 100 families in Mohill and the surrounding parishes with the proceeds from our Church gate collections in Mohill, Eslin, Gorvagh, Bornacoola, Cloonturk, Gortletteragh, Fearglass, Cornageeha and Annaduff on the weekend of December 8th & 9th. We would appreciate your support and we’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Mohill and the surrounding parishes for their generous support of our Church gate collections over the past year.
