Anthony was a decent and friendly man, whose passing leaves a huge void in the community. To his family, neighbours and friends we offer our deepest sympathy, and we extend our thanks to all who were involved in the search for Anthony. May his soul rest in peace.


There was no winner of this week’s Lotto Jackpot - numbers drawn 9, 10, 17, 18. Newtowncashel Drama Group’s production of “Canaries” by Bernard J Farrell was cancelled last Friday night as a mark of respect the Fagan Family on the death of Anthony Fagan. The play has been rescheduled for Sunday March 20th. Doors open at 8.00pm. Curtain at 8.30pm sharp. Admission is strictly by ticket only, Adults €10.00, Primary Children €5.00. Congratulations to the two quiz teams from Cashel who took part in the Community Games County Finals in Edgeworthstown recently. They both did Cashel proud, coming 1st and 4th respectively. The two teams were: Emily Farrell, Ciara Casey, Lucy Kenny, Patrick Farrell Niall Casey, Molly Fox, Lauren Casey, Áine Bannon and Niamh Skelly. Well done to all and good luck to Emily, Ciara, Lucy, Patrick and Niall who now go on to represent Longford at the Community Games National Finals in Athlone in May.

Martin Skelly is being honoured as the Longford Person of the Year by the Longford Association in Dublin at the Dinner Dance in the Red Cow Inn on April 2nd. Distribution of census forms has commenced. A census enumerator will call to each house in the area in the coming weeks to deliver forms. The forms should be completed on census night, April 10th. They will be collected after that date.


U13 Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the Under-13 Girls Basketball team who are now through to the next round after a great game against Longford North. The team members are Molly Fox, Niamh Skelly, Lauren Casey, Aine Bannon, Sarah Farrell, Seoighe Mullvihill and Ciara Healy. A special mention for Emma Casey who also participated also. Thanks to Longford North for a very sporting game also to the Referee and the scorekeeper.

During Lent, Mass will be celebrated at 7.00am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This arrangement will give a greater number of people an opportunity to receive the ashes and to come to Mass during Lent.


Newtowncashel Badminton Club has resumed activities on Thursday nights in “The Hill” at 9.00pm. Members are invited to retrieve their racquets and take to the court! New players are welcome.


The Stations of the Cross is a devotion that may be performed at any time of year but is particularly suited to the Lenten Season. Instead of the Rosary, the Way of the Cross will be followed on the Fridays of Lent at 7.30pm. All are urged to make a special effort to participate in this traditional devotion.


Fr Seán O’Dowd S.P.S. has taken up an assignment in St Mary’s Parish, Sligo. St Mary’s is the Cathedral Parish. We wish him well and thank him for his help in recent weeks.


The Parish Pastoral Council will meet in “The Hill” on Thursday March 24th at 8.30pm.


The Annual Pilgrimage takes place from May 27th to June 1st and the organisers request the names of sick people who would like to join the pilgrimage. Names should be submitted as soon as possible please to Elizabeth Clyne (043) 332 5156.
