Members from Midlands Polish Community CLG (MPC) and its Community Support Group led by Wojtek Wrobel who delivered put-together boxes of goodies to number of organisations
In keeping with the events of 12 months ago, Midlands Polish Community CLG (MPC) and its Community Support Group led by Wojtek Wrobel delivered put-together boxes of goodies to number of organisations in the region to celebrate the old Polish tradition of Little Santa (Mikolajki).
The initiative started two years ago by vice chairman Wojtek and it is a great success every year.
Some 240 gift boxes were all prepared by volunteers in Wojtek’s own home, turning the house into a real Santa’s workshop.
Every year MPC receives great support from the Polish Embassy in Dublin and additional funds were collected during the last Polish Independence Day celebrations in Drum Community Centre, Athlone.
"At this point, we would like to sincerely thank for all the donations and support," said Midlands Polish Community CLG, Slavek Kazek.
Filled with sweets, boxes were then distributed to various organizations on 6th December, which traditionally is the day when Polish children find the little gifts under their pillows in the morning.
Wojtek and the other members of MPC delivered boxes to Esker House in Athlone, Midlands Simon Community, Melting Pot in Roscommon and Ken Smollen Food Appeal Longford branch.
"We received an extremely positive feedback from the beneficiaries and we are delighted that we could share joyful spirit of Christmas and compassion," added Slavek.
"Midlands Polish Community CLG are hoping to continue this lovely tradition in the coming years."
And this Saturday, 17th December, MPC invites everyone to the Civic Square in Athlone for ‘Live Music @ Christmas Market’ event where a mini music festival is prepared for everyone to enjoy.
Three orchestral bands will perform: Ballinasloe Town Band, Ballymore Eustace Concert Band and St James Brass & Reed Band from Dublin! Everyone is very welcome to come or even stop by for a while at the Civic Square, Athlone and enjoy the performances.
The event aims to bring joy and happiness and to create great introduction to the Festive Season of Christmas. Midlands Polish Community CLG would like to sincerely thank to Creative Ireland Westmeath, Westmeath County Council, Cllr Frankie Keena and all Athlone Chamber for great cooperation and support. The festival starts at 1pm.
