‘Prevention is better than cure’ - Hagan on Longford road safety calls

Fine Gael Cllr Gerry Hagan has received assurances that funding for upgrade works at a busy junction in Longford town will be explored over the coming weeks.

Cllr Hagan led calls for the council to carry out a low-cost safety scheme along the Ballinalee-Longford road from the junction of the Kelleter  lane towards Longford town.

“It (Ballinalee Road) is one of the busiest roads in the county and sight lines are poor which has left it particularly dangerous with a number of blind spots being apparent on both sides,” he said.

Area engineer Eamon Bennett said an application had been made previously for a low cost safety scheme to be undertaken on the junction.

He said the council would now look at adding it to a supplementary list of low cost safety schemes for future funding.
